Mompowerment Thoughts

Hi read,

Happy New Year! I hope it's a year of success, health, and joy!

I know you're seeing lots of messages about having the best year ever. You're reading about wiping the slate clean and making big changes. I appreciate those messages. I do. I'm goal-oriented and write out my list of resolutions for the year.

Here's the thing. Before you start making changes, consider taking a pause. Yes, pause so you can reflect. Don't jump to the step where you take action. You might end up making changes for the sake of change. Instead, pause and reflect to help you take intentional action that empowers you to achieve your goals this year.

So, what does a moment to pause and reflect look like? Start with giving yourself space to feel all the feels. You might feel proud about some things and anxious about others. Maybe you're excited about some things and frustrated about others. Give yourself space to feel all of these feels. It's normal to feel more than one emotion about an aspect of the year.

Now that you have had space to feel all the feels, you can reflect. First, look at what you achieved in 2023. Don't compare it to what you thought you should achieve, but what you actually did achieve. Look at the personal and professional sides of your life. Think through your successes, big and small. (The truth is that many small wins might get you to your bigger goals, so they are important.)

Next, celebrate your successes. Yes, celebrate! I'm a huge fan of celebrating your wins before moving on to the next thing. It's easy to simply cross off something on your to-do list and move to the next thing. Don't do that. Celebrate your win – whatever goal or success you strived for and achieved.

Now that you've acknowledged your success in a way that is meaningful to you, do an assessment. This will help you with what you start, stop, and continue.

What went well? What enabled you to achieve your goals? (This is where you own your part in making things happen and don't talk about your team, luck, etc.) You want more of these things. Continue these.

On the flip side, take time to understand what got in your way in 2023. What distracted you from your goals? What made things harder? Stop these and leave them in 2023.

Consider what's missing. What can you add that will help set you up for success? This is what you'll start doing.

I want to hear from you. What will you remove to help you maximize your time and effort in 2024? What do you want more of this year?

Hoping that your 2024 is off to a good start,
Suzanne

PS This is the time of year when working mamas are looking for new ways to set themselves up for success. Pass this on to a fellow working mama who needs to hear this. She'll thank you for it!

PPS Don't forget to grab labels for the new clothes and items for your kids. My favorites are TagMates from Mabel's Labels (affiliate link). Keep your kids' clothes and items out of the school lost & found!
