The Crib To Big Kid Bed Transition Nearly Killed Me

I don't know about you, but the transition from crib to big kid bed hit me like stepping on a small plastic toy in the middle of the night: it caught me by surprise and it hurt like hell.

Kate Willsky had a similar experience. Her daughter had always been a great sleeper — until THE SWITCH. "She began waking up crying several times a night; bedtime became a struggle that often stretched on for over an hour; she appeared in our room before sunrise, ready to start the day." Today she writes the mistakes she made, and what she wishes she'd known beforehand. Save yourselves! It's not too late!

“Smiling Depression” Is A Mental Health Topic Parents Should Know About

"Smiling Depression" Is Exactly What It Sounds Like, & That's The Scary Part

It's all in the name: Smiling depression is a form of depression in which a person appears to be happy and even thriving on the outside, while suffering on the inside. The mental health concern is especially dangerous since it's more difficult to detect compared to other types of depression, posing a risk for people to not get the essential support they need. On top of that, teens and young adults may also express false beliefs like "my parents already have enough to worry about" or "I just have to suck it up" that can prevent them from seeking help.
If you're concerned that your teen may be experiencing mental health struggles, you should know there are resources for you as a parent. Newport Academy is a provider of teen and adolescent mental health service across the United States, and they offer a range of resources — from telehealth sessions to residential programs — that prioritize the health and wellbeing of your teen and your family.
