It Guts Me Every Time I Go Through My Kid's Clothes

It's a rite of passage: sorting through your youngest kid's clothes and passing them along to somebody else, be it Goodwill or a friend of a friend. And Samm D. finds it almost impossibly hard. She writes: "Every time I say goodbye to these outgrown clothes for the last time, I am saying a final goodbye to what I wholeheartedly believe is the greatest phase of my life. And I have no idea how to move through the goodbyes without feeling immense grief for the things I will never get back again."

Not to mention it hurts to think about how expensive it all was. Or does it feel good for you to send it off to a new home? Give it a read and see what you think.

We're creeping into the early reader stage at my house, and I am braced for the exact situation that Hampton Williams Hofer describes in her latest: "Bring on the comb, the brush, and even that bowl full of mush. Voices for heroes and villains? I've got them covered. I'll read to these kids all day. It's all dinosaur dances and bear hunts — right up until that to becomes a with." Sound familiar?
