Not many people are aware of this biracial history of an Island of people who lived and worked the ocean to provide. The Eugenic movement was viciously informing the State of Maine to clear the Island. This is a shameful part of Maine History that is not talked about. Malaga Island has been the subject of two novels. I have read them both. A school was the beginning of the end for this community. Many of the residents were simply put away in The State home for the feeble-minded.
The book is well-researched. I didn't care for the set -up of the novel. One chapter is set in the 1900s and then in the 2000s.
