The Eugenic movement was viciously informing the State of Maine to clear the Island. This is a shameful part of Maine History that is not talked about. Malaga Island has been the subject of two novels. I have read them both. A school was the beginning of the end for this community. Many of the residents were simply put away in The State home for the feeble-minded. The book is well-researched. I didn't care for the set -up of the novel.
