Dear Husband, I’m Grumpy During The Holidays Because Of You

GRRRR
Dear Husband, I'm Grumpy During The Holidays Because Of You

We'll keep it short and sweet today since you've got turkey to eat and blinking lights to dig out of storage. Today, we've got Becky Vieira lovingly putting her husband on blast for his holiday complaining: "Love, marriage, kids, and THEN holiday misery. I'm not sure if that is the exact trajectory most people follow in life, but I know that's been mine. From the time my relationship with my husband started to get serious up until this current moment, the most wonderful time of the year has progressively deteriorated into anything but."

Or maybe you had to make a nasty side dish today to satisfy your spouse's craving for nostalgia? Buckle up because the most wonderful (read: infuriating) time of the year really kicks into high gear today. Happy Thanksgiving, folks.

Still finalizing your holiday plans? Need an excuse NOT to buy a plane ticket or a tank of gas? Here's a great argument for staying put, from Katie Bingham-Smith: "I don't want to be on a time schedule. I don't want to feel like I have to get dressed. I don't want to make dishes that I have to transport (without spilling) in the car. I want to do our own thing." And you should!

The Healing Power of Not Planning (Occasionally)

Hiread,

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the US. (If you're outside of the US, happy Thursday!)

It's fun to talk about planning. But sometimes I do not plan and it's wonderful.

This week, I planned the following:

Thanksgiving dinner menu and grocery list

To go to the neighborhood Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning

Otherwise I have zero plans between now and Sunday. And it feels GREAT.

Most of us live hyper-planned lives. On a normal weekday for me, my entire day is planned down to the 15 minute increment. It's efficient but exhausting.

That's why I love an unplanned holiday or vacation. This space is so important to my mental health. I recharge during these low-intensity, no-plan periods.

Is this something you do? If not, try it out during a holiday or long weekend. Let me know how it works for you.

Best,

Beth @ Parent Lightly

PS. If you still need your planning fix, please join us in the Digital Planning Tutorials Facebook group. You can watch the Trello tutorial video replay and feel free to ask the group questions as well! In the next few weeks, I'll also be scheduling a tutorial on how I use Trello for Christmas present planning.
