The final Sheffield's Working Jobs Fair of 2022, delivered by Opportunity Sheffield in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, took place at Broomhall Community Centre on Tuesday 22 November.
Jobseekers from the local area attended to discover the latest job opportunities, meet employers and find out about employment support and training options.
Employers in attendance included The University of Sheffield, Avon and Sheffield City Council, who were on hand to talk through current vacancies and advise routes into their industries.
"The job fairs are a great opportunity to meet people in real life in their communities, to see what we can offer," said Sarah Higgins, Sheffield's Working Project Officer.
"Doing localised events like this has gone really well. We've had good footfall today – great positive people who are here because they want to grab the opportunities, and not because the job centre told them to be here.
"I think they benefit everyone. We're taking the next Jobs Fair to Gleadless in January. Transport links are good, and we already have some great employers lined up."
Adeel Zahman, Local Area Committee Manager at Sheffield City Council, added:
"It's great to see a diverse range of people from the local community and surrounding areas of Broomhall. The purpose of the LACs is to empower communities and bring services into the heart of the community.
"I believe in a bottom-up approach, and regular events like this, elevate individuals and the whole local area."
Attend a jobs fair as an employer
The next Sheffield's Working Jobs Fair is on Tuesday 24 January at Terry Wright Community Hall, 569 Gleadless Road, Sheffield, S2 2BT. Drop in between 10am and 12pm.
If you are a local employer looking to recruit and would like to book a stall, contact Sarah Higgins on sarah.higgins@sheffield.gov.uk or call: 0114 474 3304
Sheffield's Working Jobs Fairs are a collaboration with Job Centre Plus South Yorkshire, and bring Opportunity Sheffield's skills and training services, together with a range of Sheffield based employers.
Opportunity Sheffield's programmes include Advance (training and courses), Advancing Digital (digital skills training and courses), Sector Routeways (bootcamps for training in a specific sector) and ESF Pathways (helping unemployed people overcome barriers to get into work).

Do you elf? Samm Davidson does, and that means it's time to gird her loins: "I climb onto a chair and steady myself before opening the upper-cabinet doors and fish through the junk forgotten all the way up there. Finally I spot him — tattered hat, worn lanky appendages, and a small stain on his belly. His eyes are wide and he's staring at me from the spot he's been hidden in for the past eleven months. It's my wonderful, exhausting, controversial felt-made friend — my Elf on the Shelf — and it's almost time for his yearly debut. Here we freaking go."
If you're still deciding whether to start the tradition, she's got everything you need to know before you commit. And if you're already committed, she'll make you laugh in recognition. Good luck and godspeed to those who participate, and just remember: You don't need to run yourself ragged to make magic.
Here's a nice little reminder from the Scary Mommy archives as we head into six weeks straight of VERY good eating: "Everywhere you turn, there are ads telling you that you need to make a change. How many times have we heard, 'New year, new you!' What is wrong with the old you? Absolutely nothing. Yet thanks to this diet culture here we are, picking ourselves apart to find ways that we are deficient," writes Colleen Dilthey Thomas. Well, forget that.
