Tell a new mom to find time in her schedule to work out. She will often wonder where she can find the time.
I can relate so well to her story!
Summer is approaching and i know there can be a lot pressure to have a summer body. As a mom you wonder where people find the time to commit to daily exercises.
We can also master ways ways that can work for us moms because 30 minute intervals can be a luxury as a busy mom. Breastfeeding moms have a bigger challenge to make time because even if they pump milk to have someone watch their baby they maximise its usage when they are at work or off running errands.
I remember after having our third baby with a demanding job i would get home and breastfeed. When baby was full and satisfied i would fall asleep in the couch.
As i was going through my old photos recently, we had just had our second baby I look so toned in those pictures yet at that time our second born was just eight months.
I remembered how i was able to quickly get in shape without much effort.
The truth is we just want to fit in our clothes after giving birth and not have everything be such a struggle.
I'm so excited to share ways that i hope will work for you too while you are staying home with the babies, working from home, working fulltime, studying and basically juggling meal preparations and an organised home set up.
I hope i will make this short and sweet!
Let me show you ways to help you commit easily to change and become consistent without using much will of your power daily.
Do a lot of mini workouts
When you get home, you change into your comfortable clothes. Make them workout friendly. You can start with your cooking. If thst is what you start with, then after getting things ready, throw in some pushups. You can start with 5 pushups really.
As you gain strength you can do 20-50 pushups at a go. I love pushups because they are some form of resistant exercise. If that is what you prefer.
Mini workouts allow you to use the small interval times you have at your disposal. Which can help because you do not have to wait till everything is perfect to start your work out sessions.
This will help you be effective and consistent because you are making the most of your time. Just before serving food throw in another set of work outs.
Try squats, push-ups, planks, yoga, stomach crunches and other exercises that work for what you want to achieve.
Resistant exercises are great for building muscle and toning the body. They can get you a smaller waist in a short period of time.
Continue with your exercises even when your children are in your work out area. Make sure they are safe especially if one of your children does not walk yet. Your children really get used to your routines and adopt them as theirs after sometime.
Include aerobic exercise in your routine too.
Exercise just before bathing, you can easily do squats, pushups while filling the bath tub. It is so easy and attainable than planning 30 minutes of training.
Maximise on your television time too! One of the people i admire actually loves television after work to unwind. She actually wants to work out while watching her favourite programmes.
If you are able to go all in for 30 minutes and more then its good because it works for you and you are able to afford that time.
Plan your meals
Have a meal plan that you can prepare while you cook for the family. Create your own plan with a clear guide on weight loss. However choose a meal plan that will tailor fit your lifestyle.
Replace unhealthy snacks with with vegetables, fruits, nuts, greek yoghurts and so much more. Make your snacks tasty and appealing.
If you are a working mom like me then always pack a lunch box so you can avoid eating fast foods too often than you should.
At times preparing a snack can be time consuming but fresh fruits make snack preparations much easier and they replace sweets and snacking that does no good for your health.
Once a while it is ok to have sweets or satisfy some cravings however maximising on nourishing your body consistently.
Get some sleep
Your body burns fat while you sleep. Train your children to sleep at a certain time and they will be used to it. See also Survival tips for working moms.
Train your body to sleep early or have enough time to sleep. You know you have not slept well when you are always tired and unable to complete major tasks excellently.
You will also find that exercising helps you sleep better.
One may wonder how they can start this journey to a healthy lifestyle.
Make time that works for you in your schedule. Remember your home life is unique so look for options that work for you. If doing 5 minute work outs in between preparing meals then do it.
Schedule
In order to be consistent in what you do schedule your time. Let what you do be intentional, plan ahead to focus on mini work outs if that is what you want.
Eat well
This will help you see results as you work out. This will benefit your body too overall. Plan your meals so you live in a healthy body that makes you feel good and one that makes you happy.
Drink well
Watch your liquid intake and take as much water throughout the day as you can. You are investing in your health that will benefit you long after this moment.
Be consistent
Strive to be consistent more than being perfect. You make more progress by what you do daily than what you do once in a while. Learn to be patient consistency is built overtime.
Sleepwell
It is so important to get good sleep my dear. Make time to rest, plan for it and stick to it. Sleep helps burn fat, makes you more alert, your concentration is much higher and your immune system benefits from prioritising your sleep.
I trust this will come in handy as i learn along the way to make use of my time wisely.
I pray that your mornings may be calmer and you may find harmony in all your responsibilities. I pray you may find time to enjoy your family because you deserve that dear mom and so much more!
