"But Moses protested, "If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, 'The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,' they will ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what should I tell them?" God replied to Moses, "I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you." God also said to Moses, "Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations. "Now go and call together all the elders of Israel. Tell them, 'Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—has appeared to me. He told me, "I have been watching closely, and I see how the Egyptians are treating you."

Today this passage I have read many times revealed something new to me, "Yahweh," "I Am," "The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob," is how God identified himself. The Egyptians had many gods and that would have had much influence over the Israelites after such a long period of living in their land and then being enslaved by them. God is/was not any of those gods. He was also not just some phantom. He was their God, THE God.

If I am honest, I sometimes find myself praying more as a mental health practice or as a list of wishes than an act of worship and trust. Who am I praying to in those moments? Sometimes I need to be reminded. I may be "a friend of God," and Jesus may be "closer than a brother," but He is also the Creator of the Universe, Jehovah, the Great I Am, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He is not some therapist, apparition, or Santa Claus. He is real, holy, listening, and he cares.

God, forgive me when I forget who you are and to Whom I am speaking when I pray. You are Jehovah. You are Creator, the God Who Sees, the God Who Saves. May I remember I pray to our Father in Heaven and your name is holy! And may this change everything else. Amen
