FUNNY AND ADORABLE
Sloth at the Zoom, by Helaine Becker, illustrated by Orbie, and published by Owl Kids Publishing. This book has been out for a couple of years but I'd never read it before. I am so glad I impulse-bought it at Book Warehouse the other day, because it is VERY fun. I've already planned to use it with some of my younger students later this month.
One day at the Zoom there's a special delivery of a new animal -- a sloth! But, the sloth was actually supposed to be delivered to the Zzzzzoo... not the Zoom! Uh oh. It's a bit difficult for the sloth to make friends at first. Everyone here is already in their own groove, rushing everywhere. It seems like this wrong delivery might be a big problem... until the sloth meets a friend who also takes life at a slower pace.
There are so many themes hidden in what at first could come across as being just "another cute animal book." My favourite part of the book though, is the way the text and illustration work together to show how sloth can't even finish a sentence before the other animals rush away. I can't wait to use it as a read aloud because I know my littles are going to love my sloth voice.
Funny and adorable!
Recommended ages 3-7
