Every era homemaker has made pin money to supplement the family. My great grandmother sold eggs, took in boarders, and took in washing and sewing. I have been a homemaker in many different ways. I have been a stay at home single mother, a working single mother, and a married stay at home. As independent contractor, I have earned money and services in different ways. In the 1990's, I typed papers for college students, I took in a child or two to care for during the day. I cleaned houses and businesses. I baked and prepared holiday meals for families. Bartering was an interesting practice. A car repair was too expensive for my limited budget. I bartered baking services to get my car back on the road.
The computer age dawned. This lead to a more efficient means of typing papers, making small batches of business cards for my clients, and my greeting card business. These skills began to become obsolete because people were becoming more computer literate and software began to become more economical.
Nevertheless, I continued to make pin money online by using sites that offered gift cards, focus groups, product tests, and surveys. This pin money has always been used to make life a bit more luxurious for my family. One year, I used giftcards to pay for an above ground pool. I have received game systems for the children, products that we have loved, given as gifts, or sold(following the rules). This past week, I had an exceptionally rewarding week, I made 300 dollars by participating in two focus groups.
My newest endeavor to create pin money for household in the coming months will be a homemaking book series. Look for upcoming blogs about this.
