The last full day of our adventures, we started our day with breakfast at the hotel which was once again a great way to start the day with the exception of their coffee... once again, that left something to be desired.
Hoped on our bikes and headed to the beach. The waves, the sunshine. We made a new friend -- a lady who had drifted on her float maybe a half a mile down the beach... she was just floating and all of a sudden her head pops up and she goes, You aren't my friends. And I of course am like, I could be. Maybe. We all laugh and she starts to propel her way back up the ocean strip to her friends.
Saw a little girl get stung by a jelly fish. I hoped out of the water so stinkin' fast. NO. ONE. NOTHING. was going to sting me. And then I went back in, of course. And found some super sweet shells for my oldest tiny human at home.
Then, hunger hit - is it me or when you are biking everywhere and swimming, YOU GET SO DANG HUNGRY. We headed to Poseidon's not under the sea, we opted for the one on land.
Poseidon 38 Shelter Cove Ln Ste 120 Hilton Head Island, SC 29928
This place was mostly outdoor seating with a cool awning. Our server was cool and awesome, she said something about the "day's" soup tasting terrible and had plenty of other really great recommendations. My cousin got some very beautiful fish and I opted for the clam chowder and a specialty salad. Come and fight me but I believe that every salad that tastes good is work of art. You have the perfect bed of greens that mix with the perfect veggie/fruit combo and top it off with what my oldest would call the "sauce." A good salad sauce complements and accentuates what is already on the plate... it does not take over nor does it sit in the background.
From there we went to find some boats to take pictures of - my oldest had been begging to have me send pictures of boats... I think we found enough. Our afternoon, we made friends with a lizard and some pirates while playing putt-putt, because a vacation is not complete without a round of mini golf.
Lots of fun in the sun. That evening we went to a place that was recommended in almost every single foody magazine on the island...
Santa Fe Cafe 807 William Hilton Pkwy APT 700 Hilton Head Island, SC 29928
Googles description falls short: Vibrant, refined Southwestern restaurant with a New Mexico look & a rooftop cantina. But then again are there even words to describe such a place -- the interior was amazing. The ceiling was something I had never seen before and the outside seating was fantastic. We sat near a service dog who also had high compliments for the chef when it came to the meat it devoured. And honestly... none of the pictures I would have taken on my phone would have given the food or the venue the credit it deserved.
That night we biked around and eventually found some ice cream to eat pool side.
I threatened a child...
After our delicious ice cream adventure, we headed back up to our room to rinse off the day and recharge before our last partial day on the island. I was almost asleep and I hear something - like literally was there a goat loose in the hall? Running back and forth? Nope. It was someone's teenager. I went to the hall and I looked out - made eye contact with the perp and stated, keep doing that and I am going to feed you to the fish... well, maybe to a shark. That was that and I closed the door. Now, I know - how Karen of me, but it was late... like the turtles were thinking about coming out of their nests at this point.
Next day...
The blur of the next day was a scurry and a hurry to get some of the good things we had previously enjoyed while we were on the island along with a classic Starbucks run which included something peachy... OHHH YEAH! We hit up our favorite European place and looked around a little bit more.
