Hi read, How are you this week? How is your summer going? If you're like many working mamas who I know, you likely need to change some things up to get things done this summer. If you're struggling to get through your to-do list, is it time for a mindset shift? You are not alone if this is the case, so don't stress. Let me start by saying that I have made a few mindset shifts this summer. Two of my largest marketing clients let me know in May that they weren't doing any marketing this summer. With that in mind, I had to reset my expectations about this summer. I am using this time to work on an audiobook of The Mompowerment Guide to Work-life Balance and get more done on book #3 for business leaders. I'm retooling revenue streams for the second half of 2023 and beyond. I'm making sure to include more longer moments of self-care because I can (yay!). And my husband and I are moving some things around so we can better share the mental load (double yay!). So, what types of mindset shifts can you make to help you get things done this summer? Step away from mom guilt. When was the last time that mom guilt helped you? It likely hasn't. It weighs on us as working moms, but it doesn't necessarily help us. Kick mom guilt to the curb this summer. (Maybe that approach will stick around beyond summer too!) Think of yourself more as an enabler of fun instead of the mom who is missing the fun. And be present in the moments with your family. That always helps! Shift your expectations. Maybe this is a busy season, so you need to shift into get-it-done mode during work hours to be present during non-work times. Maybe you need a mellow summer when you're usually the fun mom. Maybe you thought you would have downtime, but things have picked up at work. Whatever the change is, embrace it. Have the moment you need. Remember that work-life balance is a long-term approach. Summer can be a specific kind of season without losing your overall balance for the whole year. Share the mental load. I talked a little bit about this in the last newsletter. I want to keep talking about this, though, because I see many working mamas struggle with this one. You don't have to go at it alone to get things done this summer. Whether it's dividing up how you and your significant other parent or tag team for housework or working with a neighbor to carpool, you can share the mental load in the summer. You might even work on enabling your child(ren) to help too! Shift your view of time management. Time management is planning and controlling your time. It's also prioritizing, being intentional so you work on the right things, and managing your energy. Stop thinking of time management as working through a to-do list and start embracing the full definition. It will help you get the right things done, understand what you can delegate, and share the mental load without feeling exhausted in the process. Include self-care. Do you let self-care go in the summer because you have too much going on without the usual structures for your kids? Please stop that. Remember, small moments of self-care – whatever that looks like for you – make a difference. More on fitting in self-care in a Mompowerment post. And put it on the calendar so that you have the time to do the things that fill your cup. What's helping you get things done this summer? What mindset shifts do you use? What new ones will you try?
