Dealing with Difficulties Wilful Contrariness
Proverbs 11:3 AMPC "The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the willful contrariness and crookedness of the treacherous shall destroy them."
Proverbs 15:4 AMPC "A gentle tongue (with its healing power) is a tree of life, but willful contrariness in it breaks down the spirit."
One description of "'wilful Contrariness" is intentionally disagreeing or being willfully disagreeable and annoying", which breaks down the soul.
Cutting words leave long-lasting memories.
Our Lord and Friend will guide us through life; but if we are stubborn and
harden our hearts to His Word and His voice, then we will be led astray. God
knows what is best for us and we can continually trust Him.
Repent. the Greek word 'metanoia', translates :- 'meta' bears the concept of
'shift' or 'change'; and 'noia' translates to 'mind'. So if we are finding our
hearts and minds are willfully contrary in an area the Lord is wanting us to change;
then like Romans 12:1-2 'we are to be transformed by the renewing of our
minds'. Then we will prove what is the 'good and perfect and acceptable will of
God'.
What does the Word of God say about the things we are being willfully contrary
about? Maybe someone has wounded us, and we are finding it hard to forgive.
"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as in
Christ God forgave you." Ephesians 4:32.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness,
gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. Theses virtues are in each one of us
by the power of the indwelling Christ by His Spirit and are powerful forces to
help us overcome in every area, including willful contrariness.
2 Corinthians 3:18 "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the
glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to
glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord".
It's not in the strength of our own willpower that we are able to overcome, but
by the power of the Spirit of the Lord. Let's choose to repent, yield to Him and
allow our lives to be transformed to be more like our Lord and Friend.
God bless. Kath
