Stress sometimes messes with my mind. I'm generally a "the glass is at least half full" kind of guy, but at times the irritants associated with stress can weigh heavily on my level of contentment. There are days that I think a Big Chief Tablet and a #2 pencil make life simpler.
I spent three days in the Nation's Capital this week and while I was away made the discovery that I could not log on to my work email account or have access to my files. The culprit was a notification that read: "Improve your sign-ins - Better guard your account with the Microsoft Authenticator app. Prove who you are easily through push notifications."
Historically, when I've been connected to Office 365, I remained logged in and there were no steps in logging in. On rare occasion, I had to enter my email address and password, but it was no big deal. An inordinate amount of stress came my way recently when I had to log-in, wait for a code to enter in addition to my password and every time I went to another application on my computer had to go through the process again and again. Perhaps it was that experience brought to mind the stress-free living associated with a Big Chief Tablet and #2 pencil.
The second day I was away, downloading the Authenticator app on my iPhone in order to access my work account was no longer optional. It was mandatory. I downloaded the app on my phone, was given a QR code to scan. I attempted to scan the code with the camera on my phone and found it didn't work.
I looked for a phone number for Microsoft and an assortment of numbers associated to adds that a Microsoft Expert was available to help with technical support. By the way, in the distant resources of my memory, something like that proved costly. It was not free support.
Month before last, we renewed our GoDaddy account for a three-year period at a cost of over $900. It is through that account that we have access to Office 365. The cost seemed excessive and automatically was charged to my credit card number. Renewing the account wasn't optional, it just happened. To add insult to injury, the protective step of the Authenticator app brought the cyberspace highway to a dead end. The lack of access to my files and outlook had me at a standstill.
The last evening, I was in town, I went to a restaurant on Capitol Hill that I'm sure lowered my blood pressure when I walked into the setting. For starters, the temperature inside was a welcomed contrast to the heat index outside. In addition, the natural lighting in the restaurant through windows highlighted beautiful plants strategically located. Thoughts of being locked out of my work email and files vanished from my mind.
It reinforced for me the difference live plants make for me in a room. I am not a fan of artificial plants and I am not a fan of half dead plants. I want lush green plants that are thriving inside my home.
Yesterday, through trial and error by deleting the Authenticator app and downloading it again seemed to do the trick. Today I have access to my files and I'm thinking about spaces in my home where an additional plant or two might keep my spirits high.
