Galan's SikiTales #399 — Dad, Be Happy For Me!
Dear Dad,
Last Saturday night, when you got home from work, I was right there at door, waving my tail and excited to see you. In fact, I was even jumping for joy! But, I know that in my new "look", you couldn't see me. After Aunt Michele told you that I had crossed over rainbow bridge (it was green for me) and gone to Heaven, I tried to tell you that I was ok. But, since you were in your shock and grief, you were not listening. When you sat by my mortal remains, I put a paw on your leg but you were distracted. I was trying to show you my cool new body, but you were looking at the past.
Since I know that many friends are reading this besides you, I need to do a fast rewind to when I was a young pup. As you remember Dad, I had a "brother from different parents" that was only a few months older than me. You do remember Picasso the Italian Greyhound, right Dad? He was my bestie and we did everything together during your cool travels on the buses and trains. When he died young from what we suspect was a liver ailment, I was heartbroken. In fact, at the funeral service that we had for him, I was his sentinel and wouldn't let anyone near him.
Fast forward to last Saturday morning. Recently, you know that most days I felt great but some days I struggled. Last Saturday morning, you knew I was feeling poorly but we both thought that I would get through it. After you went to work on the first full day of your job, I took a long morning siesta under the blanket. Later in the morning, I got up, jumped down from the bed and had a drink of water. Then I made my way toward the door of the room because I knew that Aunt Michele would get me soon so that we could start our playday together. I loved our walks and the gourmet snacks that she used to give me!
But, then an interesting thing happened Dad! Picasso was in the room with me! While I was puzzled as to why he was there, I was overjoyed to see him! He said that he was there to take me to a very special place. I felt a tiny bit of pain. Then in the next instant, it was as if I was young again with boundless energy. In fact, my bad leg that I had after the car accident was as good as new! I played with Picasso at a very special park that went all the way to the horizon. It was painted in the colors of the rainbow and then some! There were animals of all shapes and sizes. Of course, there were also millions of dogs! Picasso explained to me that this was a very special section of Heaven that celebrated the animals that God had created.
