To quote Brother Andrew,
"The real calling is a not to a certain place or career, but to everyday obedience, and that call is extended to every Christian not a select few".
The Bible which we also call the Manufactures Handbook, has story of many faithful people, that can be used as role models of faith. These people to had to learn faithfulness and obedience, because the only thing that pleases God, is faith and trust in Him.
Romans 5 verse 1: "Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ".
Therefore a good role model would be somebody who puts their Faith and Trust, in God. So let look at a character from the Bible who is not a good role model, but sounds awfully like many of the role models people use in the world today.
Taken from 2 Samuel Chapters 15, 17 and 18: Absalom
In many ways Absalom was a perfect politician, like many of them today claim to be. But Absalom pursued what he wanted through all the wrong ways and for all the wrong reasons. Absalom kept going his way, not God's way, to right the wrongs of his life, and to gain the justice and power he thought he deserved.
When Amnon was physically by Tamar, God's way called for Absalom to seek restitution. Instead Absalom pursued violent revenge.
His father King David later verbally pardoned Absalom for murdering his brother, God's way said seek full reconciliation, but instead Absalom schemed and manipulated to win public favor and overthrow his Father who was sill overcome by grief.
Absalom had a desire to be king, but he sort his own ways of becoming king. Absalom had what he needed to be a great leader, good politician, excellent counsel, but he was doing his way instead of seeking God's.
To lead we must serve, but sometime self gets in our ear. only when our hands are outstretched and open before God, seeking His Glory, can He fill them up with privilege, power and blessing.
Jeremiah 29 verse 11: "'For I know the plans I have for you'—this is the Lord's declaration—-'plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope'."
Faith and trust, in Our Lord and Our Friend, will help us all be better role models to others.
God Bless.
OFJ.
