To Nebraska!!
Well, the winds of change are creating a tornado in our family. And it's blowing us right to a small town in Nebraska. I can honestly say that I did not see this coming.
My amazing hubby, after spending close to seven years working toward his degree, has just accepted a full-time pastoral position. In a wonderful, small church in rural Nebraska. Believe me, that was not the first place I would have chosen for us to land when he started his search for full-time ministry work. After spending two weekends, one in September and then again just this past weekend, immersed in the church, the people, and the small town culture, it was actually hard to leave.
Ten years ago, if you'd said I'd be a pastors wife getting ready to pack up and move into the great unknown, I would have laughed hysterically in your face. Isn't it funny how things change? Now, I'm preparing to sell my house, leave my church of ten years, and haul three of this nutty crew twelve hours west. Quite the adventure, right?!
I know people will have a million questions. I had them myself. Can you survive on a pastors pay? Sure, and I'll have to work too. You're moving your daughter during high school? Yup, and now that she's gone, seen the town, and made friends, she's crazy excited to go. Won't you miss your kids and grandkids? Every single day, but they've all said they can't wait to come visit.
The ultimate answer to all the questions is simple: this is the direction God is leading us. Every hour of school. Every ounce of volunteer service at church. Every meeting, event, and program we've helped with has lead us to this next step. Is it scary? Yes!! Will it be worth it? Absolutely!
I'm going to miss it here. The Region has been my home pretty much all my life. Nothing like weather extremes and horrible traffic to make a girl feel at home. LOL!! But, the thought of a slower lifestyle, less traffic, and a quieter life is really appealing.
So, as the days on our Indiana adventure wind down and the countdown to our new Nebraska adventure begins, I can honestly say it's been interesting. With that, if you're ever in Nebraska, give me a shout.
Pastor Jeromie
