Monday's Mash-up
Today was a hodgepodge of homestead happenings, homeschooling, teen drama, and money savings. We are not spending money this month due to the rental issues. The morning started with coyotes harassing me and the dog on our run. They ran straight for the hen house. We were lucky our hens were in the hen house. At least, my run was faster.
We ended up with one of those teen mornings. My daughter (she is mine when she is outspoken like me) was furious with her art teacher's accessment of her art project redo. She ranted and raved for a bit until her brother told her to knock it off. I took our son into the gym to do the the new Beachbody Shaun T Dig Deeper workout. I was sore after. It was a great gym class. Our daughter was doing yoga. She called her art teacher and stood her ground about her art project. The teacher restored the lost point. I hate to say it our daughter was absolutely right.
We settled into morning lessons. The children completed their Biology finals. Our neighbor called to let me know her puppy was in our yard. I brought him home. An hour later, he was in the goat pen harassing the goats. Sure enough, the coyotes were back trying to entice our neighbor's puppy. We brought their puppy in the house because the neighbors were not home.
We needed books from the library, however, both of libraries were closed today. Our library has been personality issues within their staff and they actually went on strike for a bit. We will need to do a library run tommorrow.
The phone continued to ring off the hook with various issues and problems that needed to be solved by ME, meaning my mother's care home called several times.
Monday's Monday Moments:
Gift-giving can be expensive and dull. I love to make gift baskets out of things other than gift baskets. I have used kitchen bowls, vintage platters, vintage purses, and hats to fill with items, gift cards, and treats. I find this a great way to gift treasured.
Keep a loaded prepaid debt card for small expenses that may not be in the budget. I used this for my Audible Cyber deal today.
Buy another turkey cook it up for sandwiches for the week. I cut it and freeze in 3 cup containers. My family enjoys meat. In the winter, they enjoy a heavy lunch and dinner.
Holiday hams can be a great budget saver. Ham salad, mac and cheese with ham and broccoli, 15 bean soup, pea soup, and egg dishes. (I do not like ham, the family loves it, so I have to find ways to use it up).
Learn ways to lower your property taxes. I found that if we lease part of the land for our rental for farming, we can greater reduce our property taxes.
Youtube is a great way to find free workout videos. There are so many. I love Beachbody. I have been doing Beachbody programs for year. They have done away with DVDS. Everything is online now. 179.00. You can find these programs on Ebay for as low as 5 dollars up to 50. I have a large collection of Beachbody porgrams that I swap through.
Streamline your streaming services. We have Hulu Live for football season. In Feburary we will go back to bare bones Hulu and Prime Video.
Have hobbies that have mulitple purposes. We cross country ski. It is great exercise, couple time, and family time. Hobbies can keep you healthy and be used to generate income. I really believe in multiple streams of income and robust savings. Many of my side businesses have created around my kitchen table with little to no startup cash.
Invest in yourself. Buy classic, quality clothing and shoes. Accessories can be trendy to stay on point. A woman whom is well-groomed is going to be paid better than her plain Jane counterpart. It is the same thing with men. Good self-management breeds confidence.
Kindle books continue to be a better value for us when used wisely. We do not have book store close to us. The one thrift store we have is gross. Our library is failing in so many ways. I find that if I use gift cards, put books on my wishlist, and use my kindle reward program, I can buy several books for less than it cost to drive to my library. That is sad.
Check out your store rewards. I had a ton of rewards left on a music store in Maine. I purchased 20 cds and 5 books with shipping included. I love when there isn't cash out of pocket.
