007: Road to a Million is, essentially, the James Bond Junior of the 2020s.
James Bond Junior was a syndicated children's cartoon show that added Bond tropes. It aired during a long hiatus in the production of Bond movies.
007: Road to a Million is a reality show that adds Bond tropes (music tracks from 007 movies made by Eon Productions, locations from the films). It is being shown on Amazon Prime during what is shaping up to be another long hiatus in the production of Bond movies.
It's not a perfect comparison. James Bond Junior actually had cartoon versions of Bond film characters. But you get the idea: It's a Bond thing to watch amid uncertainty about the future of the film franchise.
In addition to the Bond tropes, 007: Road to a Million has high production values for the reality show genre. There's some good photography of the locations. Also, the show has actor Brian Cox as "The Controller," who is making the lives of the contestants miserable.
It's still just a reality show. Contestants are seeking a prize of £1 million and are put through their paces just to find the questions they must answer to advance.
Fans of reality shows will likely get sucked in. But if a viewer is expecting more than a reality show, this isn't it.
