By which I mean MINE. As I've previously announced here, I've been exploring Judaism (my Grandmother was, I'm a quarter) in sort of a low key, timid way, of course searching for meaning and guidance, but also for meaningful traditions to give to Bobbie and Joe. So I decided that we would attempt Hanukkah this year, and let me tell you, it wasn't until Monday night that I realized it started Thursday night so I basically then ordered our Hanukkah on Amazon Prime, and like the miracle of the oil, our Hanukkah arrived last night as the sun was starting to set. Here is an actual transcript of me trying to explain to Joe and Bobbie what Hanukkah is, the night before:
Me: So you guys, we're going to celebrate Hanukkah this year --
JOE: AHHHHHHHHHHH
BOBBIE: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
And then here's me walking Joe to school, trying to explain to him that he's Jewish:
Me: Joe, so you and Mom and Bobbie are part Jewish, which is really really special.
Joe: Is Dad a Jew?
Me: (No) Yes.
Joe: Okay. (then) OH LOOK A HONDA!
He looked at the menorah and wondered how you turn it on. We lit the candles and said the blessings, and it was a small thing, but also it was everything, hands reaching backwards many years, a bridge to the present.
