There was nothing more innocent than two friendly people carrying loads of boxes with the word 'charity donation' written on them to a pink van plastered with huge stickers of cookie-eating unicorns on each side.
While Soojin was whistling a Christmas carol and greeted everyone who passed them, Wonjoon put the cardboard boxes into the van and sighed. "Honestly, Sis... your van sticks out like a sore thumb. Don't you think that, if a cop would show up in this part of the city, they would look at your suspiciously unsuspicious ride first?"
"What reason would they have to search the van? Besides, the boxes say 'donations'. I've been using the same trick for years and always got away with it. Cops are stupid, Bro!"
"I thought they caught you last year?" Wonjoon smirked and glanced at his sister over his shoulder.
Soojin rolled her eyes. "They caught my ex-boyfriend. Don't remind me of that story!"
"That nerd guy? I never liked him anyway."
"No, that was the year before. Nerd guy stole my van. In return, I stole his insulin."
The siblings laughed hard and punched each other's shoulders for fun. Wonjoon halted his fist bump mid-air as he spotted a curious scene.
A young man stumbled through the snow, as he tried to cross the street as fast as he could. He tripped over the snow-covered sidewalk, crawled a few meters on his knees to collect a plastic bag he had dropped, then got up and scarpered into the direction of the apartment complex in weird, semi-fast movements.
Soojin, who had witnessed the same scene with equal curiosity, was the first one to find her voice. "Wait… Where's this guy going? I thought all of the apartments in that building are vacant."
"That's what I thought as well…" Wonjoon slammed the van's door shut. "Let's go after him and see where he goes!"
Easier said than done. Crossing the icy street in high speed was more dangerous than walking through a mine field. Wonjoon fell head-first into the snow, and fell one more time in an attempt to get up again.
Soojin's slow penguin-like movements gave her an advantage in stability, but the hidden sidewalk caused her to trip and fall onto her brother and sandwich him between her and the pavement.
"Get off me!" Wonjoon turned his body and squashed Soojin under his weight. She punched him away with a high-pitched scream, causing his head to hit the pole of a street lamp.
After putting an end to this unintentional Laurel and Hardy sketch, the siblings rushed toward the apartment into which the young man had already disappeared.
"Great! Just great!" Wonjoon huffed. "How are we supposed to find out where he lives?! We can't just ring at every door!"
"We need to do it the bro-and-sis way," Soojin winked at her brother. "Wait until it gets dark and investigate."
