It's January, so everywhere we look there is a reminder to declutter. This is another one, but with a twist! I want you to consider how decluttering is a frugal activity!
Decluttering is frugal for several reasons. First of all, it's a free pursuit. It costs nothing to cull things and take out what isn't working for you. It costs nothing to toss the trash, donate the things that aren't needed, and have a general tidy. In fact, it can drastically change the look of the home for the better simply by putting in a little elbow grease (work) to declutter and clean.
Start with the obvious trash. Pull all the trash from the rooms in your house, even if you have half full trash cans. It's so easy to accumulate trash in different rooms. So go ahead and get that taken care of for the whole house!
Once the trash is out, take a good long look at the bedrooms. If they're cluttered or the flow of the room isn't good, take notes and see what might fix the problem. Furniture is inexpensive on Facebook Marketplace, which could solve little or big clutter problems. I refreshed the pillows and changed the quilt so that making my bed is easier. I took away throw pillows and don't plan on replacing those. Making my bed had become a chore each day with the number of pillows I had. I've simplified my life just by taking away throw pillows! I also plan to move out a chair that isn't working in the space, a piece of artwork that doesn't match and would work better in another room, and decluttering and cleaning the nightstands.
Moving on to the living spaces, I spent part of the week working to do the little things that need to be done in the home. I've cleaned off flat surfaces, like the kitchen table. (It's one of those hot spots that accumulates found objects!) I've swept the laundry room, decluttered the kitchen counters, and generally put things away or in the donation box. Doc and I are both cleaning off our desks and making the office cleaner and a place to do more work. Have a temporary landing spot for the donation box, then be sure to take it by and get it donated.
By taking the time to declutter, we curate our homes into the style we like best. I'm not a minimalist in any way shape or form. But I also don't want piles of clutter all over my home. By taking out the donation items, I'm doing my family a service and helping us all to have a better looking home!
What can you do to be a blessing to your family and your home? I pray that you're able to declutter and enjoy your home more!
Stacy
