I'll keep this post short: Two days ago, we got the news that one of my husband's aunts had died. She was 97 or 98, some impressive number like that. She was part of the small contingent of my Mother-in-laws' siblings who moved a two hours drive north. I think it had something to do with the uncles looking for jobs after the war. The one brother who lived there died a few years back. I had to miss that funeral because of work. This time, I was about to do the same, but then I decided to ask our schedular if she could work things out for me, so I could go with my husband and she was able to work things out for me!
Attending funerals is an act of mercy (and also a good time to catch up with people you hardly ever see!) I'm definitely at that age now, when funerals are where I catch up with old friends. That's not a bad thing. I hope lots of people come to my funeral, and have a huge party afterwards. I've always loved hosting parties, and being the center of attention, so I'll be very happy about bringing people together to pray for me!
Anyway, back to my husband's aunt…talk about a journey! She has several children, six grandchildren, and eleven grandchildren. That's what I always look for as a sign of success…a big family. I tell my kids that I want a long list of grandchildren's names in my obituary. That way, I know I have lots of loved ones praying for the repose of my soul (plus, a huge gathering and party after my burial!
Well, time is wasting, and I have a short caregiving shift this morning, followed by a 2 hour drive north, into an accumulating snow event. We will say good-bye to this lovely lady, and offer our sympathy to this family who has lost their beautiful an amazing matriarch
I will end with a reminder to all of you that none of us knows the day or the hour we will be "called" from this earthly life. Live today (and every day!) with love, laughter and grace, so your soul will be "packed and ready to go" when it's your turn!
And, while you're at it live your faith fully and intentionally this season of Lent, and that will be good training for the rest of your life (and get you to your preferred destination afterwards! π ππ»)
