#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! End of February and some hot issues to close it out. It's a great week if you're a Radiant Black fan as Worldtr33's mystery deepens. It's all about the girl power with DC this week with Amazons, Power Girl, and Harley but don't miss Flash in that mix. Spider-Punk is back along with an intriguing What If from Marvel. Sponsored by the All C's Collector's Showcase April 5th- 7th who is down to their last few vendor tables for the event, contact the store today. As for now, we've got five stacked high ready to fly:
Duke #3> Duke's search for answers has led him to a classified holding site for America's most dangerous prisoners.
Now he's the most wanted man in the world.
Unfortunately, everyone seems to prefer him DEAD over ALIVE. (S) Joshua Williamson (A) Tom Reilly, Jordie Bellaire
Smurfs Take> The issue I have been most looking forward too after I heard about it last year, even talked about it on the podcast. So excited to see how they explore the Baroness in this series and to be honest enjoying Duke way more than I thought I would be. It's different and with the right number of familiar characters sprinkled in (that are not Snake Eyes) to keep it fun. And to be honest the story is pretty good so far.
Avengers: Twilight #3> Off the shores of New York City sits THE RAFT, a government facility full of secrets and danger! Can CAPTAIN AMERICA infiltrate it before the new IRON MAN gives him the same gruesome fate as TONY STARK? (S) Chip Zdarsky (A) Daniel Acuna
Smurfs Take> The out of nowhere smash for me since Avengers has been so hit or miss over the past few years. True, expectations might have been a bit on the low side, but this is tracking to be something in the "Epic" or dare I say, "Classic" category. The first two issues have been true works of art from all angles and ready to see what other heroes might be around or see the fate of a few fan favorites.
Edenwood #5> END OF STORY ARC
Rion and the surviving cadets from the Demon Killer University are taught valuable life lessons about survival, trust and honor by rogue demon killer, Greyhound. With their plans drawn to enter Edenwood and search for the "Legends," first they must infiltrate the demon-occupied Fortress South and take back Rion's book of maps. Rion's foe, Evaniel, is waiting for a fight to the death. But will he have help defeating Rion from an unlikely ally? The stunning conclusion of Edenwood's first big arc happens here! (S) Tony S Daniel (A) Tony S Daniel
Smurfs Take> The book that tried to have everything in it and was a feast for the eyes. This has been an interesting story, one that kept me hooked but not hungry for the next issue. I love the ambition, the characters, and the monsters for sure but more excited to see the rest of this world that's been hinted at through this story. A great foundation for something larger and I'm sure this issue is going to close on a bang!
Thrawn Alliances #2> THE ADAPTATION OF THRAWN: ALLIANCES CONTINUES! As THRAWN and DARTH VADER carve their way through the galaxy, get a glimpse of their early partnership as THRAWN and ANAKIN are on the hunt for PADMÉ! JODY HOUSER and original THRAWN: ALLIANCES novelist TIMOTHY ZAHN continue to plot the course of Thrawn's rise with PAT OLLIFFE and ANDREA DI VITO! (S) Timothy Zahn, Jody Houser (A) Andrea Di Vito, Pat Olliffe
Smurfs Take> Thrawn, the wonder years! Ever since Heir of the Empire I've been hooked on the Thrawn character. An absolute strategic badass, and one of the coolest characters to come out of the EU. Top it off with Zahn writing the story is an added bonus, means we get the full character and not some interpretation or a writer taking liberties with the character. I'm excited to see the interaction of these two characters and just more Thrawn.
Wolverine #44> SABRETOOTH WAR - PART 4! Death has followed LOGAN for over a century. But as the blood pools and the gravestones pile up around him, what happens when SABRETOOTH kills again? The fallout of significant mutant deaths, and a desperate tactical play by WOLVERINE and X-FORCE turns the SABRETOOTH WAR on its head! (S) Victor Lavalle, Benjamin Percy (A) Cory Smith
Smurfs Take> Maybe I'm enjoying this story a little too much, but this has been great. Just how Sabretooth continues to mess with Wolverine is inspiring and just shows how lethal he can be and not some mindless killer. It's the 90's all over again as this feels like the perfect continuation of the classic Wolverine story when these two first faced off. You really start to question if Wolverine is really going to win this one.
