My husband is going to be very busy from now on. He agreed to take on a part-time maintenance job for the Catholic Church that we attend. He's also going to continue with his professional photography jobs, squeezing those in however he can. He does mostly professional portraits, and he is REALLY good at it. I always say that he knows how to paint with light. Everyone these days thinks that they can do portraits, because they have an iPhone. You see these photos online, parents or "photographer friends," taking a photo of a high school graduate, with no attention at all paid to the light. Often, the light is behind the subject, so the face and eyes are not lit. But still, people are happy with (what I think) looks terrible. The eyes are the "window to the soul." If you can't capture "the soul" of a person in your "portraits, because you know nothing about lighting and proper light balance, then you might as well draw a stick figure and submit that for the yearbook! I guess I'm just spoiled, because we have lovely portraits of all of our children hanging on our walls, and each one is exquisitely set-up, with perfect body positions and head tilts, while the lighting on the faces, twinkling in their eyes, compliments the "whole picture!" How could anyone settle for less? I guess cheap is the only concern these days, for folks who don't have a clue.
However, I digress as usual! With my husband gone for several hours, I'm now in charge of his dog. I have to make sure that the dog eats his breakfast and gets his "Kong." I have to get him outside throughout the day for his "potty breaks, and I have to sound the alert when "Daddy's Home!" Dog goes into shutdown mode when daddy is away, but as soon as I sound "the alarm," dog goes CRAZY! He runs to the back room, and looks out the window to verify the news, and then he begins with his pitiful, over-acting whine. I always quote him as saying something like, "Where have you been?! Why did you leave me here?! Mommy has ignored me and beat me and yelled at me when I barked at the mailman! (All of which is completely untrue, well, except the yelling part. Dog doesn't understand the concept of an "inside voice." He has to bark his loudest then jump up on the couch as the mail carrier walks by, bearing his teeth (the dog that is) to scare the mailman off of our property ASAP! Sometimes I actually squirt the dog, with a spray bottle, but that is no deterrent for him. He'll do the same exact thing tomorrow. And, as soon as the mail carrier is out of sight, it's back to napping. The cats just quietly stay out of dog's way. 😉
In addition to photography and maintenance man, hubby also keeps our "country" property well maintained, so he's also going to have that job ramping up soon, as the grass starts growing. I'm hoping and praying that I will get well enough to at least help with the yard work here at home. We'll see how that goes. I wouldn't be able to cut grass today, if my life depended on it, but I will do it this summer, if it takes me all day! So, yeah, dear husband is taking on way more than his fair share of things for now, as I continue trying to find the "right button to push," to start me on the road to reliable recovery. I sure hope that I find that button soon! But, in the meantime, I'm VERY grateful for my talented husband! 😍
