Hunting Housewives - Review
Karla, Joli, Sharell, and Rebel planned a phone-free girl's trip at an exclusive spa. They board a private plane to the spa. Later, Karla wakes up in a field with burning plane wreckage around her. She stumbles around the site and finds Joli with an injured leg and Sharell. They yelled for Rebel, but she did not survive. They use their skills to survive the woods, treat Joli, and memorialize Rebel, hoping their husbands will rescue them.
Karla's husband, Mark, invites Joli's husband, Jared, Rebel's husband, Evan, and Sharell's husband, Andre, into his screening room. Mark turns on the TV to watch the feed of the women in the woods. At first, Jared, Evan, and Andre think it's a joke or a new reality show. However, Mark tells them it's real and part of his plan. The men sit in shock and want Mark to end it, but Mark explains his actions. Joli recorded Jared and Mark's dubious business conversations and threatened to release them if he didn't end the prenup. Sherell refused to support Andre's political pursuits if he didn't give her $50 million to start a spa. Rebel constantly cheats on Evan. Mark believes Karla's betrayal is the worst of them all. They will all be free of their problem if the women die. When Evan doesn't see Rebel on camera, he questions Mark. Mark congratulates Evan on getting the bonus prize because Rebel died on impact. Evan flies into a rage and tries to attack Mark, but Mark pulls out a gun and forces Evan into a panic room. Mark locks the door behind Evan and returns to the screening room. Andre and Jared privately discuss a way to save their wives while escaping a madman. Will Joli, Sharell, and Karla make it out alive?
This movie is a compelling idea with poor execution. The message is about housewives, lost in marriages, finding their self-worth to escape their husbands' control. However, this empowerment plot becomes hindered by bad acting, horrible graphics, and flat jokes. This movie could become 'good at being bad' with a few sequels. But it's a better fit for Comedy Central than Lifetime. If you are not a Real Housewives fan, skip this film.
I give it 1.5 out of 5 stars

Blackmail, Lies, and Murder - Review
Candace finishes teaching her spin class and approaches a student, Kristen, with a black eye. Kristen says she is okay, explains, and leaves. Candace enters her van's passenger side and allows her daughter, student driver Avery, to take the wheel. Before they leave the parking lot, the car stalls. Candace promises Avery to have a mechanic work on it.
Candace meets with the mechanic, Mike. Mike warns her the bill will be higher than expected because her car is old. Candace asks Mike to examine the car for necessary fixes to make the vehicle safe and sits in the waiting area. Kristen and Candace recognize each other. They decide to get lunch together because their repairs will take a while. Kristen takes Candace to the restaurant she shares with her husband, Nathan. Kristen reveals that Candace's fears were correct. Nathan physically and financially abuses her while he cheats with the staff. Kristen explains that she can't leave because Nathan tied her money into the restaurant. Then, he took over. And if she leaves, she will lose everything. Candace tells Kristen about her mother-in-law, Iris. Iris blames Candace for her son's death and tries to take Avery from Candace. Candace tries to keep the peace for Avery's sake, but Iris undermines, belittles, and argues with Candace whenever they talk. Kristen says they should kill each other's problem. Candace believes Kristen is joking until Kristen plots. Candace leaves the restaurant and walks to the body shop. Kristen chases after Candace, pays for Candace's repairs in cash, and apologizes.
Kristen returns home to Nathan. After days of mistreatment, Kristen drugs Nathan and slips out of the house. She finds Iris and kills her. Kristen returns before Nathan discovers she is gone. Later, Kristen confronts Candace. Since she did her part, she expects Candace to return the favor. Candace reminds Kristen that she never agreed to the plan. Then, Kristen plays the tape of them in the restaurant. Kristen will take the tape, implicating them both, to the police if Candace doesn't kill Nathan. Can Candace escape, or will she become a murderer?
This Strangers on a Train twist has all the intrigue of its inspiration (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). Kristen eyed Candace for manipulation before Candace knew it. She hid in the shadows while watching Candace's life fall apart. Kristen, like Bruno, commits the crime and blackmails Candace to do the same. Candace, like Guy, tries to avoid Kristen and stay a step ahead. This cat-and-mouse game will keep you on the edge of your seat. But wait until the end. One final smirking glance will make you question who was actually in control.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars

The Thundermans Return - Review
The Thundermans Return - Nickelodeon & Paramount+ - 1 hour and 45 minutes
The Thundermans save the world from a meteor shower and head to Thunderman Tower (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). They beam with pride because they don't have to hide their identities. Hank and Barb want to settle and enjoy time with the family after a successful mission, but Phoebe wants to analyze her 27-point mission review. Hank and Barb decide to stay in for the night and play games.
Later, they get an emergency call. The Blue Flame is breaking into a bank. Phoebe wants to stop him, but Hank and Barb tell Phoebe to let the V-Team handle it because T-Force is off duty. Phoebe believes their family is the better team and convinces her family to go downtown and fight.
T-Force battles Blue Flame, but he is ready for them. Then, V-Team shows up. Phoebe demands they retreat, but a member of the V-Team gets hurt in the battle by The Thundermans. V-Team stops The Blue Flame with one person down. The Thundermans regroup at their home base when President Kickbutt enters. Since they hurt another superhero during battle, she must fire T-Force. They must leave their tower by noon, and the V-Team will take their place.
The Thundermans return to their old home, and Hank and Barb are happy. They admit to Phoebe that they want to take a break from fighting crime and enjoy their life as a family. Billy and Nora want high school life, while Chloe wants to explore without her family. Max and Phoebe vow to get their previous jobs and bring the family back to crime-fighting. Max goes to his private room and shows V-Team's picture to Dr. Colosso. He remembers them. Max puts their picture into facial recognition software, and a match from Camp Evil Weevil returns. Dr. Colosso was their camp counselor. The V-Team aren't superheroes and plan to take over the world. Max wants to keep this from Phoebe, but she figured it out. Can they stop the V-Team without their family?
Fans of the Thundermans unite. This movie doesn't pick up where the series left off. However, it fast-forwards their story enough to relate to their fans while gaining more. If you were not a fan of this show or Nickelodeon, then you are not the demographic for this film. The core fans and Nickelodeon fans will adore this movie. It has campy humor, a compelling plot, and twists. Also, the ending leaves the film open for another movie or a revamp of the TV show. The graphics aren't stellar but effective for the audience. This movie is perfect for its intended demographic but could bore others.

Alone in the Dark - Review
Alone in the Dark - Lifetime - 2 hours and 0 minutes
Bri is on house arrest for a year after her husband, Michael, implicated her in his manipulation scheme. Although Bri claims innocence, everyone else thinks she knows something. Bri walks to her doorstep and finds a Polaroid (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). She thinks Michael is stalking her, so she calls her friend, attorney Sofia, for help. Sofia assures Bri that Michael is safely in jail for years. Bri should enjoy her house arrest at Michael's lake house with his expensive wine collection.
Bri lives in a smart home, but it doesn't always follow her commands. And it's starting to creep her out after 96 days there. Bri's parole officer, Nancy, warns Bri to be on her best behavior after Bri's ankle monitor goes off several times. Bri apologizes but swears it's not working correctly. Bri relaxes for the night until she hears glass breaking. She runs downstairs to discover the front door open and calls the police and Sofia. Detective Joe Hall looks around but believes Bri did this to herself with simple security oversight. Bri can't hide her anger at Joe's indifferent attitude, but Sofia vouches for him. Bri asks Sofia to stay the night.
Bri wakes up to more alarming photos inside her home. Sofia suggests Bri hire a bodyguard, Xavier. He decides to work for Bri after seeing her fear. Xavier takes stalking seriously after someone killed Cheyenne on a morning jog. He sets up security cameras and helps her create escape plans. Xavier believes he can keep Bri safe, but someone wants her gone. Will they succeed?
This movie builds up with suspense to keep the viewers guessing. This whodunit provides all the clues and motives you need to solve the crime, but you must pay attention. The music editor goes overboard with the music to create tension where it isn't necessary. And seeing Bri become the stalker after Michael gets early parole is comical and nerve-racking. This movie takes the long way to the conclusion, but the unveiling will surprise the most experience Lifetimer. But don't change the channel until the very end.
I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars
Well, good thing I am not here - Bri
I hear you, and I believe you - Xavier
It's my business when it's my wine in my home - Michael

The Single's Guidebook - Review
Molly's boss, Regina, informs Molly that Molly is in the running for a promotion to full-time content creator. Regina's daughter created a subscription box for singles, and Regina wants to create elevated content incorporating items in the box. Regina overheard that Molly broke up with her boyfriend, so Regina thinks Molly is now the target audience for the box. Later, Molly meets with her grandma because she has difficulty finding single activities. She takes a photo of her grandmother's activity newsletter for inspiration.
Jackson runs a charity to help kids discover the arts and needs donations to help the charity reach more people. His friend, Dave, tells Jackson that Mr. Larson wants to invest but needs to see more social media engagement. Jackson vows to work on their content immediately. Jackson walks home and sees Molly fumbling with an object and offers advice. She thanks him but doesn't take it.
Molly goes to a cooking class for singles and sees Jackson talking to a woman. She starts filming for content while he stumbles and causes a fire. Molly thinks the post is pointless, but engagement is up. Regina tells Molly to include Jackson in all the posts, but she must get Jackson's permission first. Molly informs Regina that Jackson's charity needs promotion. Jackson may say yes if they offer free promotion for his charity and link the posts. Jackson agrees to the exchange, and they start making content together. Regina loves it and wants to call the series The Single's Guidebook. Molly offers to be Jackson's wingman if he shows her the best places for singles. Will guiding each other help them find love or bring their professional downfall?
The premise of this movie is interesting, but the main characters have zero chemistry. The script would be better if they concluded as friends because they are not believable lovers. The viewer will become bored and easily distracted since they don't have a convincing romance. The plot has a searing examination of content creators but not much else. This film does not 'Bring the Spring' to a positive start for the 2024 season.
I give it 2 out of 5 stars
May the force be with you - Jackson
I've never seen Star Trek - Molly
