Cameras on your property can save you money, and time, and protect your livestock. You don't necessarily have to purchase security cameras. I have security cameras, several phones, and a Kindle in use. Our gate was damaged yesterday. It is significant damage. It is likely several thousand dollars in damage. I have an assessor coming out to tell me the extent of the damage. The contractor called my husband to tell him he didn't think the helper did that damage. I sent him footage of the helper backing into the post and the result. My husband didn't notice it also damaged my delivery box. Do I expect it to be replaced? Absolutely. I am not willing to file a claim because that is why a contractor is bonded. Always make sure your contractor is bonded and fully insured.
Prices continue to rise. One of the ways I sidestep expenses is to create products myself for needs and wants. A chicken needs grit for digestion. Rather than buy another product, I save all my eggshells, rinse them, and bake at 350 for 10 minutes. I grind up the eggshells. It provides nutrients to our chickens. Healthy chicken provides healthy eggs for our family. I learned this trick when I lived with my great-grandmother. This is a free option for a need for the chickens.
Consumerism is needed for the health of the economy, however, influencers lead us to believe we need a believing we need a box, device, and appliance for every day a week. There are so many things we throw away that can be used in other ways.
Pineapple tea is an interesting idea. I sliced up pineapple last night. I steeped the core and rinds for a few hours; the process resulted in a nice tea. Cost-free.
Property taxes have doubled in our community. I asked them to come out and redo our tax assessment. The first time, it went up further. It turned out it was a computer glitch. They came out again. They fixed the assessment and gave us a refund.
Check your bank statements and credit cards when you dine out. I was looking at our bank balance. I had taken my husband to lunch. I looked at my bank balance and the waitress had changed her tip. I called the eatery this morning. He argued with me. I reminded him that I have horrible handwriting. She treated herself to 25% and I had tipped 10%. I also always take a picture of my check receipt with the included tip. So, I let him run on and on. I told him I had a picture of my check receipt on my phone. I hung up and emailed him. He called me back and sent me a refund to my PayPal. It turned out he had many calls about this waitress, I was able to prove it. This is not only dishonest but theft.
Those who own pools have chlorine with blue added to it, so the sun doesn't break it down. This saved me 1000 dollars last year.
Be involved in your neighborhood. Our neighbors know that I know what is going on in the neighborhood and there are things I will not tolerate. We have a problem dog who creates a lot of damage on the property. I have written letters and received some nasty letters back. The message is to deal with it. I thought about it today. I have a training collar. I walked over and asked them to use it on their dog. He knocked over our elderly neighbor yesterday. She was bruised, but okay. They agreed to use it. I have a remote as well. So, when he comes here, he will get a correction. I am not fond of this solution, however, this dog is a problem.
Trim your trees. We trimmed our trees before the roofers came. We had one tree that was an issue.
