When I was a kid, growing up in a small town in Ohio, USA, we always opened our windows in the summer, for "fresh air". We did it in the winter, too, if mom was making lots of steam with supper prep in the kitchen. Nowadays, my husband would love to have the windows open every night during the summer, but I have MCS (multiple chemical sensitivities). I keep the windows shut tight at night, and when I'm in the car, I always shut down the outside air vent so I'm not breathing in diesel fuel and "skunky" marijuana smoke, and all of the other noxious fumes and dangerous plastic particulates constantly in the air. Just give me the regurgitated, air-conditioned breezes circulating in my car and home. At least it doesn't smell like "Mosquito Joe" just saturated our entire neighborhood. Not sure what will kill me first, mosquitoes or bug spray, but I'm more worried about the toxic bug killer's effect on my body.
I think that maybe we could still find fresh air on an ocean cruise, or at the beach, but that's our only hope for really fresh air. Or maybe, after a soaking rain, the air in our neighborhood is a little cleaner, but we live in a river valley, where fog and exhaust fumes get trapped, so it's rather hopeless for me.
My husband knows all about my sensitivities, and yeasterday he sent me this link:
I'm seriously thinking about ordering one of these devices! Anything is worth a try, and this has a guarantee, I can return it for a full refund if it doesn't help me.
In the meantime, I often wear one of my N-95 masks (which I had in stock long before Covid, when we were attending a church that often used heavy incense.) We go to a different Mass now, without incense.
One of our daughters decided she wanted to live in farm country, so she and her husband bought an old farmhouse in farming country. They have very nice neighbors, and they get to enjoy the view of cows grazing in the fields, and vegetable stands with fresh produce all summer. And their children love playing in their big yard. And my daughter's dream of having miniature donkeys came true! But all of the "standard," modern farmers out there use pesticides and herbicides galore. I've been up there in the spring, and it stinks. So don't go looking for fresh air in the country, if farmers are planting crops! (Unless you're in Amish country, which might be a little better.)
So yeah, since I live inland, without easy access to ocean breezes, and spend time driving in my car, and live in a river valley with major interstates converging, my fresh air exposure is very limited. Looks to me like the Respiray device is my only hope. When I've tested mine out, I'll let you know how it works!
This is our only opportunity for breathing slightly fresher, air, our "farm" property in Indiana. It never smells bad out there (except in the outhouse on a hot day).
