I love myself too much to go to bed without completely cleaning my kitchen after dinner. Growing up my parents left all the dishes every day for me to do. Mounds of dishes that took forever to do. It was always a daunting task to wake up to. The second that I moved into my first apartment, I established routines to create a home.
Everyone has household tasks that they do not like to do. The key is to clean up as you go along. I wash dishes as I cook. I always put a pan under casseroles to avoid spills. I have an oven that requires water to clean it and nothing less. It is a hassle to clean. While I wait for things to cook, I wipe down cabinets, fridge shelves, etc. Scratch cooking creates a mess if you do not keep on top of task.
Every night I spend 30 minutes wiping down the fridge, stove, sink, counters, and dishwasher and 1 maintenance cleaning task. Every night I add a cleaning task that takes 5-10 minutes. Cleaning light fixtures, washing walls, changing out curtains, etc.
I wake up to a grapefruit/mint-smelling kitchen in the morning, not a kitchen that looks like a Top Chef death competition or worse Chopped.
What tasks do you struggle with?
