An activity shared my mother and son, from long, long ago, when the son was only, a young, boy…translated…
After that very first flight my son was on back in the elementary school years, he'd become, obsessed with airplanes since, what's more, he'd not only just, observed them, studied them, he'd also, flown them too (in the simulation games). I'd participated in his hobby the most in the form of taking him to the Bingjaing Street to see them take off and land, as my son watched, he'd taught me to recognize the various models, to the point of "hearing the sounds from the engines, and tell which airplane it was", for instance, the one with the sharpened screech, that would be the MD-82, and it never fails. As my son taught me, I'd, become a fan of planes, and started, "chasing the airplanes" like he had too.
There was this vacant lot where we'd gone to watch the planes on Bingjiang Street, there were "members of the audience" across all age groups, there was also an uncle who'd come to the vacant lot to sell his sausages. And, every time the planes that were landing passed by the lot, the onlookers would all scream in ecstasy, my son had, raised the sausage I bought for him high up in the air; said that he wanted to show it to the pilot, to make the pilot feel hungry. I don't know if the pilot actually saw his raised up high sausage or not, but I'm sure, that having the sausages on the sticks, watching the airplanes coming in to landing, was a celebratory spare time of the local ordinary citizens'.
one of the favorite pasttimes of parents and children from way back, when, video from YouTube
Like other fans of planes, there were a few models which were my, favorites, the one I'd longed to see the most, the Beech 1900 from the Air Force, my son called it "military small", suggesting that it's light looking, with the blue-and-white tail, the body that was white to the side had the pattern of the flag of our country, which showed that it wasn't, just another, airplane, it'd made me recalled the character of the novels, the guard for the emperor, who always had a sword on his belt, handsome, and agile! There was also a star that belonged to the Fareast Air's MD-82, with the red belly, making it stand out, gliding in air! That bloody red color of the belly, looked like the halter top of the women from ancient eras, and, the character in the novel, Pan, was the most enticing example of what that looked like. The third star, the 767-200 of Eva-Air, the green pattern on the white on the body made it looked very, bright and clean, and it's, larger than all the planes, as it flew overhead, it'd lifted my heart up in the air, and, being a fuller passenger plane, reminded me of one of the imperial concubines of the Tang Dynasty.
As the planes passed through, they'd grown old like, we all, had too, the two I loved are no longer, operating, only the Beech 1900 is still, in operation, continued its, executive, missions. And now, my son is, working, and, heading to the Bing-Jiang Street to watch the planes take off and land became a distant, memories we shared. Now, as I fly out, every time when the planes took off, I'd, looked down, and it seemed, that there was always that mother-son pair there, with the sausages in their hands, waving hello and goodbye to the planes excitedly.
And, these are the memories you keep, of your own son with you, doing something that he loves doing, and, these are, the moments that you cherish a whole lot, because the two of you, were completely, in that moment of looking up in the air, expecting the planes to come in, or go out.
