This has been a month of business traveling. We lost the air conditioning on the last trip. I was grateful that I had packed gallons of drinks. We went through them quick. My kids laughed when we stopped at a gas station for gas and restroom breaks when they passed the cooler. "We would have spent 50 dollars on drinks today." These little lessons inform money skills that will go into adulthood. It is great to indulge in treats, just not every day. On the way home, we all got a large slush. Our drink cooler was empty. We spent 5 dollars on the icy 4 drinks, which was well worth it.
Travel tips:
Make sure you have a charger for each phone. I saw a teenager having a meltdown about not having a cord to her phone. His mother wasn't paying 27 dollars at a truck stop for a new cord. A power bank I own was 50 dollars at the same truck stop, I paid 15 for mine. The amount of meltdown I see from teens and tweens on the road is mindboggling.
Drinks are always expensive and full of sugar and the mounds of waste from plastic bottles. Your car will stay cleaner with large containers that you fill your cups with.
If you have children. Pack small toys and games you pick up on clearance. Save these for road trips. Pack a lunch box with healthy snacks and a treat. It gives them a chance to have control over when they eat. Long car trips with hungry, bored children can be miserable.
Use hotel rewards for hotel stays. I save hundreds a year this way.
Do what you can to be able to sustain your household for 6 months. There are so many ways to do this. A year's expenses in savings, stocking up on household goods, making health and beauty items, & cleaners and bulk items. The Pandemic wasn't that horrible for us. I was well-stocked for our family. We learned me needed to increase our gardening and canning. We had savings when my husband wasn't able to work due to Covid-19.
Learning to reduce things will reduce your budget. Your house will be tider. There are things that I refuse to buy two of with two children. We have 1 gaming system. The wii u which is in the family room.
