Sometimes the General and I don't see eye-to-eye. For the most part, we seldom get into conflict, but sometimes her lack of flexibility makes me mad. Don't get me wrong, we weren't on the threshold of WWIII, but I don't like it when she purposefully pushes my buttons. Truth be told, the same is true of her. I can be stubborn, but sometimes with her, she carries stubborn to a new art form. I write that knowing that 99.9% of you will agree with her. Otherwise, I wouldn't risk sharing about our disagreement.
For years, if our television was on, we were watching HGTV. When we moved a year ago, we opted not to subscribe to the DISH Network again. Initially, we paid a small amount monthly for the 21 months we were in temporary housing to put our subscription to DISH on pause. When we moved from the home where we had subscribed to DISH for almost twenty years, we were told by the DISH representative I talked with that we were paying too much for their service. Would you believe twice as much?
Reportedly, we were loyal customers with a twenty-year history, and we were entitled to a price break. It would come our way when we restored our service. I should have gotten the promise in writing. When it was time to restore service, there were no deals to be had. Based on principle, we looked for a different option for our new location and as it turns out, we have better options including HGTV. However, we seldom choose that network to watch.
Okay, so it wasn't in our marriage vows, but it is my job to pick out what we're going to watch on television. The Generals isn't going to scroll through the options available and make a choice. Not on your life! That's my job.
Though it was less than 12 hours ago, I can't remember what I selected, but it didn't suit the General one iota. She was having no part of it! She was unwilling to give the movie a chance. Okay, so it was a foreign film, and the language was not in English. Isn't that what closed captioning is all about?
I tried to be conciliatory, but she was having no part of it. I turned the volume completely off to adhere to her complaint, but to no avail. She refused to watch the movie while reading the script. That approach didn't work for her and she wasn't willing to compromise.
We were at a place where I was tempted to hand her the remote. I'm not stupid, that would have been like pouring gasoline on a fire. I only had two options: (1) I could pout, or (2) I could find something else that we'd both enjoy.
Fifteen seconds into the docuseries, I knew that we had happened upon a goldmine. Wow! Wow! Wow! What an incredible use of our time. "In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon is a two-part docuseries about Paul Simon life from childhood to the present. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I promise that you will not be disappointed.
For the record, it is in English and filled with wonderful sounds from the past. "In Restless Dreams" is a goldmine we stumbled upon. It proved to be an amazingly satisfying experience.
All My Best!
