Generations ago, homemakers would bring in needed income and they called it pin money. They may have taken in mending, sold eggs, tatted lace, or taken in a boarder. My great-grandmother spoke of this practice during the Great Depression raising seven children. My New England grandparents were not poor, however, my great-grandfather could not work the farm for some time due to rheumatic fever. My grandmother had young children and needed to keep everyone fed and clothed. Not to mention, the medical bills for my grandfather. She decided that she didn't want my great-grandfather to concentrate on his health. She decided that she would take in dressmaking, tatted lace for a company that provided cottage industry, and took in 3 boarders to do the farm work. My grandmother supported her family of 9 with skills that she had.
This month has hit a bit hard with the loss of almost 2 months of rent, the damages to the rental house, the roof, the vet bills, our electrical issue, etc. Now, we absolutely could pay everything on our income alone, however, I prefer to live below our means and have healthy savings contributions every month. So, more money is going out than we would like. Our taxes went up on both properties. I also had someone move out of the Colorado rental. They moved out with paying rent and left me a mess. Everyone is paid for the work that is done for the rentals. My husband and I are quietly advertising the house for sale. The new tenant is aware of this. It is written into the lease that they have a 30-day notice if it sells. It was a win/win because the tenant isn't sure they want the area the rental is in.
So, I was looking for additional ways to generate additional income without leaving the house. I rented the tiny house for 6 months. I have a very strict lease with the tenant and he is a member of law enforcement.
However, I found a fun way to generate income from Amazon, it is called ACX.com. The typical homemaker has everything she needs. You will need is a computer, a headset, a checking account, and a love of reading. You will be creating audiobooks. All you do is bring up Sound Recorder on Windows 11, download the script, and record yourself reading the script. You convert the recording to an mp3 and upload it to the site. You will get an offer and or a decline. I completed 10 auditions and 9 of them were accepted. The tenth one wants me to redo it. These projects pay from 100-200 for doing something I already love to do and good at it. So, if you are a homemaker looking to create income at home, creating audiobooks may be for you.
