The Detroit Symphony Orchestra
In 2010, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra was going to play a program of mostly James Bond music. Some Bond friends wanted to attend.
I was charged with helping to arrange things. A friend of mine told me the contact information of the orchestra's public relations contact. It turned out the orchestra would provide special accommodations for some groups before and after the performance.
I reached out to that PR contact. My group of Bond fans would be welcome.
Overall, it was a grand performance. But the big drama took place afterward.
My group was brought into a special room. One James Bond fan, used to his special style or self-promotion, took charge.
The symphony official said to the Bond fan, "Do you know them?" "Them" referred to Eon's Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
"Oh, yes," the fan responded. "We're close, personal, friends."
I was standing behind the fan. It was really, really hard to not roll my eyes. Another friend, across the way, was making faces at me. He knew how it was for me at that moment.
That's how it goes.
