Babes - Budget Unknown - 1 hour and 49 minutes
Best friends Dawn and Eden celebrate their annual Thanksgiving tradition of going to the movies. Before the movie starts, Dawn's water breaks. Eden takes Dawn to the hospital, and Dawn's husband, Marty, joins them. Since Eden missed their first child's birth, she refuses to leave for the second. Dawn gives birth to a baby girl and requests sushi. Before Marty leaves, Eden offers to get it. When Eden returns, Dawn and her family are fast asleep.
The hospital won't let Eden store the sushi in their fridge, so she takes it on the train and starts to eat. Her first train has an emergency disembark. She quickly gathers her food, and Claude keeps the doors open to give her time to pack. They talk and realize they are taking the same four trains home. They sit, eat, and joke. Eden takes Claude to her place to play Street Fighter (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). Eden wants to be intimate, but she alerts Claude that she's on her period. However, he doesn't care. Eden remembers that neither of them had unprotected sex before, so they throw caution to the wind and sleep together without a condom.
It's almost New Year's Eve, and Eden hasn't heard from Claude. She calls Dawn to see if Dawn can get away from her family and hang out. Marty convinces Dawn to go because he can see she's frustrated about her low milk supply. Eden and Dawn get high on mushrooms. Eden's paranoia makes her take two pregnancy tests, and both are positive. Later, she goes to Dawn's OB/GYN to confirm. Dawn asks Eden about Claude, but he ghosted her. Eden recalls she and Claude went to the same STI testing clinic. Eden walks to the clinic for information, but HIPPA laws prevent it. However, the administrators tell her that Claude died the day after Thanksgiving. Eden decides to have the baby, and Dawn vows to be by her side every step of the way. Motherhood will be the ultimate test of their friendship.
It's been a while since an audience laughed this hard. Dawn and Eden have no filters and share everything. Eden even uses a flash to check Dawn's dilation in a restaurant. They laugh, but Dawn doesn't tell Eden she's struggling after having a second child. Dawn tries to balance motherhood and work but feels like a failure. And her low milk production worsens the situation. Also, Eden has to come to grips with single parenthood. She has little family and wants to rely on Dawn to be her partner through everything. When Dawn doesn't show up for her as Eden did, Eden is understandably hurt. This film shows that bond and struggle while making you laugh from beginning to end. Don't expect an antagonist in this film because both women have a valid point and a fault in the argument. This picture is a wild ride with a nod to the Omen (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). It will easily be a contender for the best comedy of the year. It's for adults only but for every gender.
I give it 5 out of 5 stars
I have a family - Dawn
Let's go ruin a towel - Eden
