Ever since "Aliens" I've been waiting for a decent sequel to this pretty cool Science Fiction storyline and unfortunately it has never happened. Oh, they have tried, and they have tried but never seem to get it any where's close to the original "Alien" or the first sequel "Aliens" way back in 1986. After 2 sequels and 2 prequels and even 2 "Predator" crossovers, director Fede Alvarez tries again, with Ridley Scott's blessing and brings us "Aliens: Romulus" which we are calling a midquel and I'm really not expecting anything good because I have had my hopes up before, but I will admit the previews look promising.
*The MEAT* The story takes place between the original "Alien" and "Aliens", I guess there is about 57 years to work with there. Now, what is most impressive is that it ties all the movies together in ways that would please the biggest "Alien" fans while also telling a *Stand Alone* story that makes sense to anyone who happens to be new to the franchise.
*The PATATOES* The acting has a lot of new actors in an ensemble cast that is exactly what a new "Aliens" movie needs right now because part of the fun in horror movies to guess who gets killed next. Special shout outs to Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson for giving solid, believable performances.
*The VERDICT* I am as surprised as anybody else here and ecstatic to report that "Aliens: Romulus" is *Pretty Darn Good*. Fede Alvarez threads the needle on the *Suspense* aspect that made the first "Alien" so good while also bringing the *Action* that made "Aliens" such a blast. And if that wasn't enough, Alvarez brings back the actual *Horror* that is supposed to be a staple in Alien movies but has been forgotten in all the recent movies, he even captures the *Look and Feel* of the 80's Sci-Fi experience. Of course, I recommend "Romulus" for the theaters. I so enjoyed it.
