So as someone that tries hard to keep an anonymous profile online so I can be myself and share my thoughts authentically without fear of consequences or judgment in my real life... I'm always disappointed when I discover that technology has interfered to make that impossible.
Today I am minding my own business and scrolling on my Pepper Valentine Facebook... and the next thing I know, in the "People You May Know" section... I see that it's filled with people from my real life!
And I immediately panic and think, well if I can see them, then THEY can see ME!
And I *might* be slightly recognizable in my profile pic, even though I did a light disguise. So the profile pic could potentially cause enough curiousity for a google search of my Pepper Valentine name, where they will discover my blog - and they will know it is me from how I've described my life and the provided photo evidence too.
Good grief, why can't someone just be anonymous online? Like, I understand why anonymity needs to be overruled in the case of crime or threats or violating the law - I get that completely. But why can't anonymity stand for me wanting to keep my mother-in-law complaints from my daughter's soccer coach? Like, I don't feel like I'm asking for anything crazy.
I'm so annoyed right now. What do you think? Should I even try to be anonymous anymore? Or do I need to give up my dream of having a forum where I can authentically speak about my real life?
Argh. 😦
