#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! Made the mistake of commenting on how light the last few weeks have been and someone must have been listening because holy crap did the publishers slap back. Everyone, and I mean everyone has something this week that should be considered if not just picked up. X-O, Cheetara, and Space Ghost have been outside of the normal reads that are absolute hits. It's the week of Spidey at Marvel accompanied by the new Uncanny X-Men. Image shows us the Power Fantasy, and the award-winning ORE while DC finishes the Zod storyline and Batman gets a little deeper into Absolute Power. Sponsored by All C's Collectibles who is paying top dollar for your unwanted collectibles at both locations, stop in today and see what they can do for you. Now let's get started with the first issues for the month of August because we've got five stacked high ready to fly.
Ain't No Grave #4> Ryder washes up on the shores of an abandoned mine and finds herself buried under her past, present, and future in this hauntingly loud silent issue. (S) Skottie Young (A) Jorge Corona
Smurfs Take> Love this title! Wow! Just wow and we still have a few more issues to go that can still take us further than expected. Can't wait.
Scarlett #3> Scarlett has fought her way to the Arashikage's final test—a death-defying mission that could change the Clan's fortunes.
But where do Jinx's loyalties truly lie? (S) Kelly Thompson (A) Marco Ferrari, Lee Loughridge
Smurfs Take> This has been a great way to establish an old character in a new and imaginative way. I wish the character had been this interesting back in the day, and how she was quickly eclipsed by Lady Jay. This story has been one great twist after another and continues to surprise with some bold character choices that has elevated GI Joe to an amazing height.
Gotham City Sirens #1> PART ONE
When a violent and highly illegal energy drink-sponsored hunting operation threatens the lives of wildlife and the residents of Gotham City alike, the only ones fit to save the day are the criminal trio of Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn. Back together again for the first time in years. Sometimes the only way to fight bad is with even worse! With special appearances by White Rabbit, Punchline, and introducing the himbo cowboy henchmen sensation soon to be sweeping the nation known as The Nasty Boys! Get your chaps, spurs, and hats out cause it's hunting season! By the end of story you'll be covered in guts, goo, and grit! (S) Leah Williams (A) Matteo Lolli
Smurfs Take> The first series was a big hit for me and thought the character dynamics between them was perfect. I have high expectations for this title, where Birds of Prey has been so hit or miss as DC tries to figure out exactly what to do with it I don't think we will see such an awkward attempt here.
Daredevil #12> BULLSEYE! After the pulse-pounding frenzy that started in DAREDEVIL #8, Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios are surrounded by their deadliest foes! The vow Elektra and Matt have taken as DAREDEVIL will face its greatest challenge yet, as they must protect not only themselves but also all of Hell's Kitchen from BULLSEYE'S dastardly designs! (S) Saladin Ahmed (A) Aaron Kuder
Smurfs Take> Just great gritty storytelling. The perfect character development and I mean that for both the devils as everything has been carefully crafted to get the fans, the readers here.
Incredible Hulk #15> THE ORIGIN OF EVIL! As Eldest's plans draw Hulk ever nearer to Las Vegas, she remembers a time thousands of years ago. The terrible empire she ruled then…until her fateful encounter with the first Hulk, ENKIDU, brought it all to ruin, making them enemies forever! Don't miss the ORIGIN OF ELDEST as the two-part story "Lament for a Fallen Crown" starts here! (S) Phillip Kennedy Johnson (A) Daniel Earls
Smurfs Take> It's been a fun direction for the Hulk for me. And while they have taken him to some very dark places, I wish there were more monsters. Don't get me wrong, there's been some interesting characters but have felt too few and yes, the storytelling has been engaging seems short, a little disjointed at times, and a bit vague. Still, some of the best Hulk stories in years but I think should adjust the pacing just a little.
