Mr. L in Chicago.
If you asked my oldest son, Mr. L how school was going, he would still tell you that it is terrible. But this just means he hasn't rewritten the narrative he has labeled middle school with. How do I know his middle school experience isn't going terrible?
Well for one thing, he gets up early by himself, gets ready and is waiting to get going every morning. He has no problem packing his lunch the night before and he is sleeping quite well again. He isn't complaining of stomach pain, and he is usually in a positive mood when I pick him up.
Oh and his teacher called me and told me of all the fun things he has been doing, the art work he has been creating and agreed that he was still describing his experience as "terrible" but he is actually having a great time with his staff and friends.
It is good to hear that he is enjoying himself, because without that piece, he couldn't grow and learn. So time will tell if he is also learning and getting on track academically.
Mr. C is having a more positive than negative experience at school. He likes his teacher, he doesn't mind his classmates and he is putting up with his daily routines. There have been a few downers that he has been dealing with, including not having his best friend in his class for the 2nd year in a row, and he ran for class presidency and even though out of the 7 who ran only 3 gave speeches- including himself, 4 others were voted for. I feel like part of this is because he hasn't been going to this school since kindergarten like most of his peers and some names are just better known in a small town. But I'm sure over time if he wants to keep running for class presidency that his outgoing personality and curls will eventually win his peers over.

Little Miss A is having an overall good time at school as well. She loves her teacher and most days are still filled with adventure. She is starting to figure out what a good friend looks like and what a mean kid shouldn't do. Kindergarten can be tricky like that.

And as for me, I love what I do. I got a job and I'm good at what I do. No complaints there.
Mr. L will have an IEP meeting next week, so I'll keep you all posted. Wish us luck!
