The Suicide Squad - Budget $185 million - 2 hours and 12 minutes
Amanda Waller needs to assemble a larger team for her new mission, Operation Starfish. She gathers three members of the original Suicide Squad - Rick Flag, Harley Quinn, and Captain Boomerang - and adds more firepower to the team. She gets T.D.K, Savant, Blackguard, Javelin, Mongal, and Weasel to join. If they complete the mission, they will get ten years taken off their prison sentence. If they fail the mission or try to flee, Waller will detonate the device implanted in the base of their skulls. While this team is a formidable opponent for any enemy, Waller created another without telling Flag. This team consists of Nanaue, Bloodsport, Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher 2, and Peacemaker. These teams have to travel to Corto Maltese and infiltrate the Jötunheim, a Nazi-era prison and laboratory. The Thinker is conducting experiments with alien technology to overthrow the American government. After Team A fails, leaving Harley Quinn and Rick Flag prisoners, Team B will go on a bloody rampage to complete the mission.
O.M.G! James Gunn added the wit of Deadpool to the blood and guts of The Kingsman with Tarantino storytelling (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). This movie not only holds up to its name, but it gives you the darkness you would expect from a D.C. comic. While you are enjoying the often-uncomfortable humor, you see awe-inspiring juxtaposition in many fight scenes. For example, Harley Quinn brutally kills dozens of men while dressing in a ball gown and surrounded by exploding flowers. Also, an elaborate fight scene, with two conflicting but oddly similar men, is in the reflection of a helmet. The camera angles and framing give the viewer a different view of each fight scene. This film offers you unique characters with enticing backstories for the audience to watch. Seeing the first movie isn't necessary to enjoy this film. You only need to know the following from the first movie: Rick Flag loves his country, Harley Quinn is crazy, and Amanda Waller is a gangster for America. After seeing this version of the Suicide Squad, it's clear to see why David Ayer wants a director's cut version of the previous film (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). This movie is worth the theater price but not for kids nor tweens. And stay past the end credits for a glimpse of survivors.
