When the teacher has lost her voice...and the children need to practice reading...and they're cooped up and need a reason to run...Scavenger Hunt!
I did a quick little batch of instant pudding and made up pudding cups that I hid in the fridge. Then I enlisted the 15 yr old to explain the concept of a scavenger hunt to the littles while keeping them in a separate room so I could hide the clues. The littlest one got pictures instead of words but the older two were able to read their clues. Tons of fun! The last clue was the fridge so when they opened it they found their pudding cup prizes.
And now I'm thinking some reason to read-and-run needs to be a regular part of our school in place of the lengthy reading sessions I can't yet do while I'm recovering.
