Hi read, How are you? How is your May going? Why is it that schools feel the need to pack in soooooooo much into one month? And then there are the final games, performances, etc. in all the non-school activities! Let's be honest. Working motherhood is already stressful (even when it's not May). Add a pandemic to that and it's no surprise that more than a million working mothers left the workforce over the past few years. For Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm working to shift the conversation to tips. It's not enough to simply put a spotlight on the challenges working mothers face related to mental health. We need actionable steps to improve our mental health. When I talk about mental health, I'm referring to your emotional, psychological, and even your social well-being. Your mental health impacts how you feel, think, and actually engage with those around you. It's integral to how you thrive or struggle as a working mother. So, what can you do? I'm sharing 3 tips to help you with mental health: Manage your stress. I strongly believe that some stress is good but chronic stress or too much stress, especially over the long term, isn't helpful. I share 10 tips to help working mamas manage stress in a Mompowerment post. Keep your eyes on your own lane. I've been thinking a lot about the impact of social media lately. Comparing yourself to others' highlight reels can make you feel less than. It can bring you down or add to your stress levels. Get ideas, but don't compare. Life is what happens between pictures and that's not on social media. Share the mental load. Like the song says, "Let it go!" It's the perfect moment to make changes. Why not focus on sharing the mental load? Not sure how to take this step if you're often others' go-to person? I've got you covered. Check out my post on sharing the mental load. So, what helps you with your mental health? As an employee what types of things is your employer or manager doing to help you feel supported? And I'm always interested in hearing where you're struggling, so let me know if that is the case. This is absolutely a safe space. Sending so much love and positive energy your way, Suzanne PS I'd I'm considering setting up two Zoom calls for those who subscribe to the Mompowerment newsletter, one for employees and one for entrepreneurs. Reply back with I'm in and whichever one you are so I can get a general idea of interest. |
