Baz Luhrmann was an interesting choice to direct the new Elvis bio-pic. Known for such classics as "Moulin Rouge!" and "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet", Baz could be an excellent choice to finnally bring the incredible story of Elvis to the big screen that hopefully does the King justice.
*The MEAT* The story here rushes through a lot of Elvis's life. Blink and you will miss some things, but the overall history of Elvis is told, and I believe it truly is an American tragedy as told through Col. Parkers accounts. The story is *Good*. If you are curious about learning more about the life of Elvis, I highly recommend the HBO documentary "Elvis Presley: The Searcher" It is worth watching.
*The POTATOES* first, Austin Butler does an *Excellent Performance* of the King. He captures Elvis's voice, mannerisms and most importantly, his dance moves. I was *Pleasantly Surprised* by his performance. However, I was not liking Tom Hanks performance at all. He seemed like he was doing a bad impression than acting in this film. Now I know criticizing Tom Hanks is blasphemy in the acting world, but I'm telling you, he did this one wrong.
*The VERDICT* I liked "Elvis", thought it was done well and lived up to the traditions of all the other biopics like, "Ray", "Walk the Line" and even "Bohemian Rapsody". I feel like Elvis is a story that had to be told right because history has made fun of him more than he deserves, and generations don't really know what Elvis's true gift to the world truly was. after all, he is the King for a reason. I enjoyed "Elvis" in the theater, but you can get the same experience at home it's not a must for the big screen.
