Hi read, How are you today? The school year has started! I had a realization as this school year started. If my kids feel like they are set up for success, it makes everything easier for all of us. This approach reduced their stress and mine. In the past 2+ years especially, I'm trying to find little ways to reduce stress wherever possible. I've got a whole blog to help you set your kids up for success (and I mean academically, emotionally, psychologically, and physically), so I'm giving you the highlights here: - Make sure your child sleeps enough. This includes your pre-teens and teens. This impacts their learning and all the other areas of their lives. It really matters.
- Help your child get organized. This isn't only about putting things in their place. This is also about planning and being more effective with their time, especially as they get older.
- Work to create a routine. I talk a lot about morning routines helping working mamas like you. And routines can really help kids. See what routines make sense for your child.
- Support their homework habits. Yes, it's a routine, but it can be really important, especially with older kids. Dig into their learning style. Help them get into the right mindset and actually finish their work.
- Support their independence. Empower your kids to be more independent and accountable. This can start at a young age. And the bonus is that it can build confidence and help you! Win-win!
- Chores = Screen Time. This is one that we use daily in our house. To earn screen time, our boys do chores. We've got a chore chart to keep track of what they do.
- Check on their mental health. It's not enough to set up all of the things at the beginning of the year. We need to check in with our kids. Consider changes in behavior. Have tough conversations as necessary. And remember to model behavior that supports mental health.
