The Phrase 'You've Got This' Needs To Die

You've heard it a time or two; you've probably said it once or twice yourself. But today, Diana Park is railing against a very popular phrase: "You've got this."

She writes: "When a family member said it to me as I was crying on our lunch date, explaining how I didn't even know how to tackle this new life of mine, it spit me into a tunnel of rage. It didn't encourage me at all. And it certainly didn't make me feel more capable. It made me feel like they were saying: 'I don't know what to tell you but deal with it.'" Maybe you feel the same… or maybe it'll open your eyes.

"As the oldest of three, I always naively assumed we would be raising kids at the same time," admits Samm Davidson. But that's not how it worked out, which adds a tricky new layer to the holidays: "With no cousins or other family members with young kids, I bring all the chaos: the tantrums, the messes, and the bedtime constraints. And sometimes, it stresses me out." Give it a read.
