From pregnancy must-haves to what what you'll need for recovery. Check out my favorites below and then head to my Amazon Idea list for more inspiration and links to other products I found helpful.
Maternity Lake Pajamas
In my opinion, the best gift you can give a newly expectant mother is a set of Maternity Lake Pajamas. I have both the long and short sets, and I literally wore them every other night while the other pair was in the wash, my entire pregnancy. The Pima cotton is so soft and comfy, and they also make coordinating robes. Also, the button-down feature in the front is great for nursing postpartum.
Moms on Call Basic Baby Care Book
This book is a lifesaver! Get familiar with it while you're pregnant. It goes over very basic baby things like how to wash your baby to feeding and sleeping schedules as they age. This has literally been my mom handbook for both of my kids, and it single-handedly got them both sleeping through the night at 8 weeks. They also have an Instagram Account that's helpful.
Breastfeeding Care
Stock up on breastfeeding care items, because you'll never know when you'll need them! At first, breastfeeding is an adjustment period and it's helpful to have some supplies to make it a little easier.
I just discovered these awesome Lansinoh TheraPearl Breast Therapy Packs that you can ice or heat. If you wear them warm, they help milk flow. So it's recommended to even wear them while you pump to get that milk flowing and have a really successful pumping session. After the session, you can wear an iced pack to help the milk stop flowing. Also, when you're weaning off your milk supply, I wore these for 15 minutes every hour, and it helped so much!
As your body gets used to breastfeeding, and as your baby learns to latch, the breast can get a little irritated at first and cool gel breast pads and nipple cream can provide so much relief! Also, if they're really sore, you can try wearing a nipple shield while nursing to protect them. I recommend bringing the nipple cream in your hospital bag!
Postpartum Recovery Supplies
The hospital gives you everything you need for recovery, and you get to take all of the supplies home! You can always wait until you get home to see what supplies you'll need to replenish, but some items to consider would be dermaplast spray, witch hazel pads, and a peri bottle.
You will need to stock up on pads, and my favorite are the Always Pure Cotton because they are gentle on the skin and you can wear with your normal underwear or your maternity underwear. The adult diapers were too tight on my shrinking belly, so I found a pad and panty combo was much better.
Belly Butter for Stretch Marks
I put this belly butter on my growing belly all throughout pregnancy and it really helped prevent stretch marks. Every body's skin is different, but this was helpful for me!
A Parenting Book for Dad
We found this book for dad to be super helpful! It's a little funny, but also accurate and to the point. It doesn't go into too much detail, but I feel like it helped my husband be mentally prepared.
For pregnancy and nursing, you're going to need yourself a good water bottle! You really do drink and pee more than normal! I really like the Bubba Keg or Stanley cup. These make great little gifts you can surprise your newly expectant mom with! Maybe pair with a baby book (Moms on Call Baby Basics is a good one!) and some of her favorite candy!
