Hi read, How are you? How is your 2023 going? I wanted to save this message for late January because I know you see a lot of messages about having your best year yet as the year is starting. Those messages can definitely get you going. The challenge is that your drive might have started to fade by now. Or, maybe even more likely, other things might have gotten in the way of you getting started on making things happen this year. So, let's take a mini reset before you decide where to put your energy in 2023. Take a moment to pause before you evaluate things. I get that you might want to jump to action, but don't make changes for the sake of change. Make the right changes to meet your needs and help you achieve your goals. So, you've taken a pause. Now what? First look at what you achieved in 2022. Don't compare it to what you thought you should achieve. Look at what you actually did achieve – personal and professional, big and small. Those small wins get you to your bigger goals over time, so they are really important. I hope you already did this when they happened, but if not, it's time to actually celebrate your successes. I'm a huge fan of celebrating your wins before moving on to the next thing. It's easy to check off something on your to-do list and move to the next thing. Celebrate your win – whatever goal or success you strived for and achieved. Now that you've acknowledged your success in a way that is meaningful to you, do an assessment. What went well? What enabled you to achieve your goals? You want more of these things. Those are things you want to continue. On the flip side, what got in your way in 2022? What distracted you from your goals? What made things harder? Those are the things you need to stop to be more successful this year. Leave those things in 2022. As you look at what didn't serve you (or even what did), what seems to be missing? That can help you figure out what you need to start doing. Use this stop, start, continue approach as you develop your plan for 2023. You can plan goals or resolutions (remember, these can happen at any point, not just on January 1). And you don't have to set actual goals. Maybe you want to feel a certain way, so set an intention for 2023 (e.g., feel more joy, be present, or slow down). Want to build more on this concept of change? The Know Your Why Guide can help. Reply that you want this guide and I'll send it your way. It's that easy. So, what did get in your way? What will you remove to help you maximize your time and effort in 2023? What do you want more of this year? What will you bring into your life? I can't wait to hear about what you uncover and share! Hoping that your 2023 is off to a good start, Suzanne PS This is the time of year when working mamas are looking for new ways to set themselves up for success. And it's when working moms are re-evaluating how to create greater work-life balance. Pass this on to a fellow working mama who needs to rethink her work-life balance. |
