Mompowerment Thoughts

Hi read,

How are you? How is your 2023 going? Where did January go?

Last week was pretty rough for many Texans because of ice storms, my family included. Our kids were home from school for 4 days because of inclement weather and its effects on our city. To manage all the things on my plate last week, I slowed down and literally filled my cup with a homemade Chai latte each morning. I frothed the milk and added cinnamon on top. And you better believe I enjoyed every sip.

Why am I talking about this? In a month with a focus on love and friendship, let's talk self-love. How you love yourself matters. We all need to treat ourselves with kindness and respect. As a bonus, self-love shows people how you want to be treated and models behavior for your kids. So what can self-love look like?

Talk to yourself like you would a friend. That's in amazing and challenging moments. If you wouldn't say it to a friend, don't say it to yourself. Train that voice inside your head to be supportive and a cheerleader.

Celebrate your wins. Recognize and celebrate those wins. I've been talking a lot about maintaining an "I Rock" folder where you write down your big and small wins each Friday. Acknowledge your success and strengths. If you don't, who will?

Reach for goals AND acknowledge your progress. Aim for achieving. Set goals. Don't only look ahead, thinking about the next step. Consider your progress. Sometimes we need to break things down into little steps and we forget how many little steps we have made as we work toward bigger goals. This one goes hand in hand with the I Rock folder.

Ask for help. Ask for what you need at home and at work. I often talk about having people in your corner, cheering you on and supporting you. And don't say that they should know you need help and offer. Mindreading isn't a strength for most people.

Take time to fill your cup in a meaningful way. I shared how I filled my literal cup last week. That process kept me grounded, which is what I needed. How do you want to feel? What moment of self-care will help you make that happen? Practice self-care your way.

How are you putting some energy into self-love today or this week, mama?

Sending good vibes,

Suzanne
