In 2021 I did a 28 day self love challenge that Graceful, Grateful, and Gusty shared. Unfortunately they decided to stop blogging and their original blog post is no longer available.
Now the 28 day self love challenge was originally designed to be done in February as day fourteen has something special for you to do for yourself on Valentine's day. I didn't do the challenge in February but I found it was a nice switch up to my life. I think every now and then again it's nice to do something for yourself and it's practical to spend sometime loving ourselves.
If you'd like to read my experience with the challenge, you can find it in these four blog posts:
The full list of activities are below:
Day 1 - Decluttering. The idea behind this is to declutter an area or space in your life. You can chose what you want to declutter even if it is doing a digital declutter.
Day 2 - Meditation. You can decide on how long or short you want your meditation period. You can also use this time to work on manifesting some goals.
Day 3 - Hydration. Drink water and drink enough water.
Day 4 - Do physical activity. Any physical activity works even walking. But the idea behind this is to get your body moving.
Day 5 - Journal about the positive. Originally there were a few suggestions and I picked write five things I love about myself. For this one, have fun with it and write about anything that is positive in your life.
Day 6 - Try something new. Have something you wanted to try but you've been pushing it off? Then this challenge is the perfect opportunity to start it.
Day 7 - Spa day. Whether you chose to go to a spa or create your own home spa, make sure to pamper yourself.
Day 8 - Wake up two (2) hours earlier. This one I recommend to do only if it feasible. Alternatively you can switch it for a weekend.
Day 9 - Do something creative. Whether it's paint, write, dance, draw, do something that allows your creative juices to flow.
Day 10 - Write a letter to yourself in one year. Where do you see yourself in one year? Or what would current you like to tell future you?
Day 11 - Get extra sleep. This is pretty self explanatory. Of course, you can always opt for switching it to a weekend if that will work better for you.
Day 12 - Drink your favourite warm drink. Whatever is your favourite, allow yourself five minutes of alone time with you, your drink, and your thoughts.
Day 13 - Unplug. An electronics free day. Difficult yes but very doable. Life is meant to be lived and there is life outside of electronics. If you are home bound or confined, then I would suggest unplugging for a few hours.
Day 14 - Celebrate yourself. As stated earlier in the post, this was meant to be done in February so you would be celebrating yourself on Valentine's day. However no matter when you do this challenge, make sure to celebrate you.
Day 15 - Try a new routine. Shake things up but not too much. For one day, try doing things a different way and discover if the new way is better than the old way.
Day 16 - Learn something new. We do not know everything there is to know in the world. So even if it is to learn a new word and the definition of that word, learn something new.
Day 17 - Create an area in your space. Create a relaxing area for you. A safe space of sorts.
Day 18 - Get rid of three (3) things you don't use. Trust me, if you went through your belongings, you'll find three things you don't use. You can repurpose it, reuse it, recycle it, or give it away.
Day 19 - Spend ten (10) minutes dancing to your favourite songs. Whether you're dancing in your bedroom or in a party, just move your body for ten minutes.
Day 20 - Treat yourself. Whatever treating yourself looks like, make sure to treat yourself. Remember this is a self love challenge.
Day 21 - Cook yourself something new. If you can't cook, look for a simple and easy recipe.
Day 22 - Do a random act of kindness. I should include this part as well, do a random act of kindness and expect nothing in return. I am a firm believer that when you do something out of the goodness of your heart without expecting anything in return, life will repay you ten times more. I've experienced it in my life over and over again.
Day 23 - Text a friend. Do you have a friend you haven't spoken to in a while because life just got busy? A simple 'Hey, my mind just ran on you, hope you're well' can go a long way.
Day 24 - Get dressed up and take pictures. Whether it's to go to work, to go out or just to stay home, look your best and get ready for your photoshoot.
Day 25 - Look in a mirror. If you are like how I was in the past, then this may be challenging. Old me never looked at myself in the mirror because I had issues with my body and self-love. Present day me loves looking at myself in the mirror even when I look scrappy. So this will be challenging but just stand infront the mirror for one minute and find at least one thing you like about yourself.
Day 26 - Make a sugar scrub. You can also opt for a ready made face mask.
Day 27 - Movie night. Whether by yourself, with your friends, or your significant other, pick a movie, drinks and snacks and have a fun movie night.
Day 28 - Reflect. It's the last day of the challenge, so reflect on what you've learned over the last 28 days, what you didn't like, what you like, and what you want to keep with you moving forward. Think about how you felt before the challenge and how you are feeling now.
So that is the 28 day self love challenge and I hope you do give it a try. If you are a blogger, feel free to document your experiences and share it. I am hoping this inspires us all to put a little more self-love and self-care into our lives.
