What is ADIRA?
ADIRA, which comes from the Hebrew word meaning 'strong, dignified and powerful', works in the following ways:
- Providing black people (of all ages - men, women, and children) who have experienced, or who are currently experiencing, mental health issues with a safe, friendly, culturally sensitive meeting space, education and training, information and advice, and social & leisure activities.
- Engaging with young black people, to maximise their potential and nurture increased aspirations whilst improving resilience.
- Organising events to raise awareness of issues affecting the black community.

The role

Salary: £28,000.00 per year (pro rata)
Schedule:
- Day shift (with occasional evening and weekend work)

Job description
- We are looking for a passionate, driven, and motivated individual to lead on the development, promotion, and delivery of the Adira Mentoring Scheme (AiMS). AiMS is a new and innovative scheme which will provide additional support for black people in recovery who need a mentor.
- The successful candidate will have experience of designing and developing a scheme or project from concept through to delivery and have been responsible for monitoring the outcomes.
- They will be responsible for ensuring that the project comes in within budget and on time, and for submitting end of project reports.
- Responsibility will also be taken for the running of the Self Care Hub, an important part of which includes providing Black hair packs for Black people to help with the cost of doing their hair.
- One day per week will be spent on administrative duties to support the work of ADIRA.
- This is a 3 day per week position for a period of 18 months - salary of £28,000 pro rata.
- The first 6 months will be to devise and implement the AiMS scheme, along with the other duties, followed by 12 months of monitoring the scheme in practice.
- It is expected that the successful individual will spend two days a week leading the AiMS and one day a week general administrative support for ADIRA.
Skills and Experience
- Experience of project leadership (essential)
- Ability to proactively outreach and engage with potential mentees and mentors (essential)
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills (essential)
- High level of proficiency in Word and Excel (essential)
- Involvement in mentorship schemes (desirable)
- Experience of bid writing and/or funding applications (desirable)
